Drip clean is used all the way up to the second week of flowering according to your charts. When you read about the product it states to use it during veg all the way to flowering to the end. Which is it? I have never used it before would like to intro it into the last three weeks of flowering with shooting powder is it ok to use (safe)?
Hey Pete,
Drip clean should be used with every nutrient feeding with any nutrient. Slowly introduce it to feed schedule a drop at a time till 0.4 ml per gal is reached. Drip Clean is used in every stage of the plants life and is safe.
House & Garden does not sell direct. Humboldt Wholesale handles ALL accounts and we strongly recommend partnering with them for your hydroponic supply needs.
Hey Nathon,
We been very busy due to the high demand and I apologize for the delay. Thank you for inquiring about the distribution of House & Garden. H&G only distributes through Humboldt Wholesale within the states. This company has many great products and are leading the way on recycled and earth friendly products. Here’s there contact info: 707-840-0999 or info@humboldtwholesale.com
Thank You! http://www.house-garden.us
I am currently using you products for the first time.
I am running the 8 week flowering with Aqua A & B.
My question is;
Can I add Botanicare Cal Mag to this nutrient plan?
Can I add Botanicare Sweet Grape to this nutrient plan even though I am using your Bud XL?
Can I add a cup of sugar water (1tbs sugar per gallon water) directly to pot after watering with nutrient solution?
Some people have told me to substitute your shooting powder with Mad Farmer Mother of all bloom? On the Mad Farmer it says to reduce the nutrients if using their product. What would you recommend? And if I use the Mad Farmer what would be the correct ml of your nutrients?
Thanks,
Hey Allen,
Yes! you can add Botanicare Cal Mag and Sweet. Just be aware of PH fluctuation due to additives from another nutrient company’s. I would be cautious about the processed sugar due to the fact that the plant or H&G may not have the right enzymes to break down those processed sugars. I don’t here of to many people doing this to get their complex sugars into the plant.
There are many PK stimulants that enhance the flower growth and sweetness. It is always suggested when adding PK finishers to be concerned about the base nutrient levels and how aggressive your plant it growing. If pushing high ppm’s or Ec’s you should definitely lower your base foods when adding PK blends like Mad Farmer or Shooting Powder. Just always follow the directions on the product you are using.
Hello,
First off i love your nutrients, they are great for first time growers who want great fruits. i started using the soil A/B two years ago when a buddy turned me on to it. About six month i switched over to a hydro Ebb&Flow system i use hydro-tin as the medium. I use the complete line of aqua flakes. lately I have been having problems with algae i have been using hydrogen peroxide to control it. I have been told the peroxide kills all bacteria, like the bacteria in algen extract. is there a product that you would recommend that i can use that will not kill the beneficial bacteria? Any adavice you can give me would be a great help
Hi Tyler,
Algae is a pain isn’t it!! I found the best way to keep it away is to sheild everything that gets wet with nutrients from light. You may have to just live with a little. The only real drawback to algae growth is that it eats some of the nutes in your mixture. If you can keep it under control so it doesn’t take over you shouldn’t have any problems. Good Luck!
I asked the questions below about 12 days ago on the Neut Calc page. No answers yet. You have any quicker answers?
Aloha. I’ve used your products (A/B Soil) for about 5 years. The Veg. is indoors, and the grow is outside, in a green house.
Question: I have always used ProMix BX, Soil A/B, an 8 week cycle, with good flow thru waste at each feeding. I never “water”. I’ve been told that Aqua Flakes would be a better choice w/ the Pro Mix. True? Ph changes down from 6.3 to 5.8 w/ Aqua Flakes, yes? Why?
Second question: I follow the most recent Humboldt chart, and use the older chart for EC values. I use rain water, w/ an EC of 0.02 so it’s easy for me. Why do the chart numbers always put me way high on EC values? I have always added water to bring it down to recomended chart levels (i.e. grow of 2.0). OK?
Third question: How long can my mixed neutriens sit? Will they ‘go bad’ eventually?
Lastly, Should I continue to use an EC value of 1.4 above my ‘plain water’ reading for the last 3 weeks of flowering, even while using Shooting Powder?
Mahalo.
Aloha-thank you for your extended dedication to H&G. Are there any amendments added to your soil mixture? If not, you can easily use Aqua Flakes. Ph in Aqua is lower than soil because of the way it is formulated for hydroponic use.
Bringing the EC down is fine, however you might experiment with using the rates on the feed chart to see how your plants like it…you never know.
Mixed nutes can sit for a long time, even longer with a circulating pump in the res.
Yes, on the last question.
You can always call our tech support line at Humboldt Wholesale (707)840-0999 ext 2.
Did I read your site correctly? Is EC/PPM no longer an issue? What was 1.2 EC for early veg, 2.0 EC for grow, and 1.4 EC for the last 3 weeks, is now irrelevant? Proper levels are kept in check by using Drip Clean? Simply by using accurate measurements, found on your House & Garden Feed Chart, my mix will not burn or over feed my plants?
Incidentally, using the chart, w/ RO water, week 4, soil A/B, I get a EC value of 2.73. Seem right to you?
Yes, you are correct, we do not give suggested EC/PPM values on the feed chart. Using accurate measurements and following the feed chart will not over feed 95% of plant genetics. House and Garden nutrients are produced under stringent guidelines which result in a consistent liquid nutrient from bottle to bottle to bottle. Using PPM or EC meters became popular because a lot of nutrient lines are NOT consistent and one batch may work great when the next may burn your plants. Meters became the only supposed way to ensure a consistent feed rate. The real value in using a PPM meter with H&G is monitoring whether the plants are drinking more water than eating food.
Hello Kamal,
Let me give you the web site for Canada and hopefully you can contact the Canadian Rep. Here’s their web site: http://www.house-garden.ca
About the price! here in the states it retails for $77.00 for a 250ml bottle and is used at 1.1ml per gal.
Thank you for your interest in House & Garden.
Sincerely, Rob
I’ve been using your Cocos A & Cocos B for a little while. I’ve been hand feeding but now that I have more plants I want to use a recirculation system. I’m growing in Coco so I’d like to continue using the Cocos A & B do I have to switch to Aqua Flakes if I want to do Recirculation or can I do recirculation with Cocos A & B? And if so are there any variations that I have to make like flushing the Coco periodically?
Coco A&B is formulated differently than Aqua A&B. You may run into calcium lockout problems using Coco in a recirculating hydro system. Aqua Flakes is formulated to handle a large electrical pump whereas Coco is not.
Hi, you’re products are great, have been using them for over a year and could’nt be happier.I just recently moved to a house with hard water and am seeing some differences in the plants I had previously grown.Do you’re products work in hard water?
Hello all,
My name is Zach, the owner of The Healthy Harvest Hydroponic & Garden Supply based out of Pembroke Pines, FL. I am currently a retailer of your products through HW. I wanted to first thank you for adding my company to your store locator, appreciate it. If you would kindly add my store phone number also (954)538-1511 it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

hello, i reciently recieved a sample box of your nutrients and the sample bottles do not have the npk numbers on them. and i have searched for the npks but cant find them anywhere can you provide me with the npk numbers? i have bud xl, top booster, shooting powder, and mad farmer. Also the man that i recieved this box from was telling me that mad farmer is like shooting powder is this true? and that the difference between the two is that shooting powder is broken down more wheris mad farmer contains more salt due to being broken down less. thank you
Hello, I just started using your product with sunshine mix#4 and sunshine advanced mix with myco. Which line do you recommend with this soiless application Aqua Flakes or Soil AB?
To whom it may concern,
I am currently using humbolt 3 part nut. I keep having alot of trouble with brown edges and spots on leaves flush often and even during flushing some occurs. I use hydrotin and coco for media in an eb flow. Im interested in trying house and gardens any suggestions and/or sample packs?
Thank you for your time,
Jonathan Silveri.
Hello Poinzy,
We do like to give out samples for people to try. We are running short at the moment because we are in the middle of the trade show season. We are going to be in Los Angeles this weekend for a trade show there. Come visit us at our booth and we try to help you out. Thanks for your interest in our products.
I AM CURRENTLY USING CANNA NUTRIENTS, AND CANNA COCO. I AM VERY INTERESTED IN THE HOUSE AND GARDEN LINE. REASON ONE IS BECAUSE I WAS TOLD ABOUT THE SUGAR BASE AS OPPOSED TO THE SALT BASE IN CANNA. AND TWO: POUND FOR POUND HOUSE IS A LITTLE LESS $$$ THAN CANNA. BUT MY QUESTION TODAY IS; IF I USED THE COCOS A&B, MULTIZEN, ROOTS EXCEL.,TOP BOOSTER, BUD XL, DRIP CLEAN, AND THE SHOOTING POWDER WOULD THAT LEAVE MY COCO SO SATURATED WITH NUTRIENTS THAT I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO REUSE IT, WHICH IS ONE REASON I’M USING CANNA? IF NOT WHAT WOULD I HAVE TO DO TO PREP. THE COCO FOR REUSE. SECOND QUESTION; IS THERE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN USING R/O WATER, OR TAP WATER. THAT IS ANOTHER DRAW, FOR ME, FOR CANNA THE FACT THAT I CAN USE TAP WATER SUCCESSFULLY, AND ALSO I DONT WANT THE EXTRA EXPENSE, IMO, THAT COMES WITH R/O WATER.
I WILL SAY THIS THOUGH AFTER A WEEK OF USING THE ROOTS EXCEL. I GOT RID OF BASICALLY A BRAND NEW 1L BOTTLE OF RHIZOTONIC…….NO COMPARISON. ANOTHER REASON FOR THE PEAKED INTREST.
THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.
-L.T.-
I don’t know of any nutrients that are sugar based! House and Garden is very low on salts due to the time spent breaking the product down into a more usable form which also removes excess salts. House and Garden Drip Clean also breaks down salts and is a great product to with any nutrient company. The only nutrients that your dealing with is in the base products, Top Bosster and the Shooting Powder. The only other product you add to the roots with nutrients is our Roots Excelurator which is very mild. The only thing you need to be concerned with flushing out well it Shooting powder if you want to reuse your cocos.
House and Garden is meant for fresh clean tap water! I would be costly to design your nutrients for RO water and make everyone buy a RO machine when there are a lot of people with fresh clean water.
Hey I just wanted to say I had an amazing time in L.A. Thank you guys for helping to make the whole experience very memorable for us here. Your booth was both entertaining and informative and we look forward to attending next years expos in California.
Would you tell me how long magic green lasts in a 1 gallon container also how long does the flowering formula last when mixed in a 5 gallon container?,Thanks
Hey Janet,
It depends on how big they are and how aggressive they feed! Smaller plants seem to like 400 to 600 ppm, While bigger plants seem to like 600 to a 1000ppm. These are just suggestions due to i have know idea how healthy your environment or plants are.
Peace! Rob
Hello, I have been using your product for a few years now and I’m really happy with the results. However I’m having a little problem with my current grow and would like to hear what you have say about it. I’m growing hydro in cubes. Using your full line for 8 week flower. I’m currently in mid week 6 and realized that I forgot to use top booster last week. And have already started to use shooting powder. I have two days left to start week 7 and I’m in a dilemma. ( I was wondering why the fruits where still so small). Should I give it shooting powder and run it for an extra week or will it heart the plant. Please help.
Hey Chris,
We apologize for the inconvenience but our H&G staff have been very busy keeping up with demands and events. We always try to help everyone as soon as possible!
I feel you should just run the shooting powder till your plants finish. One reason is due to you can’t use Top Booster and Shooting Powder at the same time, so you must flush one out to use the other. Top Booster helps shut down the second aggressive growth phase of Shooting Powder. Just expect your plants to take a little longer to finish due to NO Top Booster being added. Top Booster finishes plants in about 4 weeks depending on the variety of plant.
I want to start using the entire H&G line, and have been begging my local store owner to get listed as a distributor with Humboldt Wholesale so we can get your nutrients line-up in stock and I can buy it!! Unfortunately, the local store owner is dragging his feet as I’ve been asking about ordering H&G for the last 2 months now…and I have yet to see anything in his store.
I’m getting impatient because I am about to start another cycle in 2 weeks and I want to use the H&G nutrient line-up for this batch and see how much better the results will be this time!
This time around I will be using Fox Farm’s Ocean Forest mixed with Light Warrior at a ratio of 2(OF):1(LW). I have also amended the mix with Myco, Dolomite Lime (very small amount), Perlite, & Azomite.
Is there anyway I can get samples for my usage or is there anything we can do to “expedite” the local store’s distributorship so I can purchase your products from them? Anything would help at this point!
Email me for my local store info or any other info you may need. Thanks again!
I just bought some of your shooting powder and I am am wondering how much of it to add to a 5 gallon reservoir? Can you tell me how much of this I need to use in ML or teaspoons instead of a weight measurement like grams?
I recently grabbed your line up at a local store after hearing about amazing results. I had previously been using pure blend pro with ok results. I grow in pro-mix bx , but recently got some sunshine mix #4 advanced to try and also some botanicare coco . I thought the guy at the shop recommended or maybe i asked for the soil a/b for the pro-mix and that is what I ended up with . I noticed in an above post you recommend aqua flakes for the sunshine mix #4 . I believe the store does not take nutes back though. ALso when my friend grabbed the sunshine mix #4 advanced at another shop he asked what was better the coco ( sunshine mix#4 has coco) or soil a/b and the guy there said soil a/b. Then to top it off I was reading the nute chart and says to not use the soil a/b if soil has lime , which it has dolomitic lime. What are my options???
One other quick question. This isgoing to be my first run with coco. I plan on hand watering. My friend recommend a botanicare coco to hydroton 50/50 mix? Is this correct ? ANy advice?
Hey John,
We suggest that if you have more then 30% cocos in your medium, You should use the Cocos A/B. The Hydroton will loosen up the cocos considerably, but I have never tried this. Your cocos 50/50 with hydroton will definetly have you watering your plants more often so that might be a deciding factor.
The dolomitic lime should be fine with the 2 part H&G formulas, I haven’t received any negative feedback when used with sunshine #4. That one gets mixed up often and people end up using Soil A/B with good results.
If you want to shoot me a email with the store name to r.stroner@gmail.com we can talk about what they suggested.
I am about to use your shooting powder. Everything is looking perfect, I am talking a 10 here buddy. How much should I lower my base nutrient levels when adding shooting powder?
Thanks, Adam
Hey Brad,
2-3 days with healthy plants, a week if your concerned about how strong your nutrients were and how healthy your plants were.
House and Garden never has toxic levels of salt build up which have to be flushed for 2 weeks.
Downloaded a nutrient calculator from “progressive-growth” which differs from yours significantly. It is a thirteen week hydro blue print. What’s your take? “progressive -growth” is a retailer so my trust level is low.
Hey Hoosier,
They are going off the European or Australian charts. I feel their a little strong with their wording on not using Roots Excelurator with Shooting Powder. And you should ALWAYS maintain a safe PH level for plants, I check before additives and then constantly monitor PH.
Hello Im using your line and am very happy. My question is in my cloning machine Im trying to come up with the best formula for roots. Im using roots excelerator, calmag (diluted) and ph ing the water, though it would be nice for some guidence. These hydro shop guys dont really seem to know a whole lot. Thanks
Hey Aaron,
When using a cloning machine I would suggest:
1)Clean fresh water, RO water with Calcium and Magnesium added or bottled water with replaced minerals.
2)Dip clones in Indole-3-butyric acid (most cloning gels).
3)some people dip mycorrihzae
4)keep water 70-80 deg.
5)DO NOT let plant lose moisture from leaves (lid if necessary) and keep humidity at around 80%.
Hope this helps and leave any tips I can help others with.
Hello ,
I am about to change over to H&G after many years of using pura vida, I grow in happy frog with added perlite. I hand water drain to waste. I am not quite clear on which products of yours to use, your advice would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Mike
Yo H&G whats the shelf like of your products, i’ve had a couple 10L jugs sitting around and wonder if they are still good. How would i go about checking and ensuring that it is still good?
can i use a solution of 50%pharmaceutical grade peroxide with H&G or will that remove beneficial bacteria and or organics if your product is organic?
Currently using: aqua Flakes A&B with additives of H&G
I would not use peroxide with H&G unless rinsing system! In some cases Peroxide can be used but I would remove Algen, Roots Excelorator and Amino Treatment.
First off I would like to thank you folks for a fantastic line of nutrients….I have tried many different brands, and by far, H&G is superior.
I am 3 weeks into flowering and just cant believe my eyes! My plants have never looked so good. So green and lush and vigorous, they are very very happy plants!
I cannot wait untill week 6,when the shooting powder is called for, and see how the plants react to it.
Thank you H&G for all your research and hard work and making superior nutrients available.
(1) It is always good to moniter your ph at all times.
(2) So your cocos froze! Just stick it in warm water till the crystals dissolve, your good to go.
(3) The only time you should flush is if the plants are over fed or your garden is finished. Drip clean keeps the salts dissolved so there’s no need to flush.
Hello H&G first off love your products I am currently running your aqua flakes a&b ( slowly switching from fox farm) with fox farms soluables ( open sesame beastie bloom n cha ching) also running FF sledgehammer ( keep salt build up) and dutchmasters zone. The system is a 20 gal RDWC using 5 gal buckets (4planters, 1 epicenter) I was told to do a Rez change every 4 weeks is this true. And if so I have your calculator for my measurements for each week. My question is do I just top off with fresh RO water and add the difference between the weeks. IE for week 1 of a 9 week flower it states 160 ml of a&b and week 2 is 200ml of a&b. So this would mean I would need to top off and add 40 ml of each to start week 2 nutes.
Second question is I have DM Zone in my system now and read that it’s not to be used with roots excelurator.. Is this correct I was told when purchasing DM Zone that it could be used with RE.. I’m confused I just started week 1 of flowering any help would be appreciated
A reservoir change every 4 weeks is fine for a RDWC system. In fact, there are some very experieced growers that have gone through an entire run without doing a water change at all with that type of system, but I wouldn’t go recommedning that to everyone. You can add fresh nutrients according to the amount of fresh water that you add to top off you system. We don’t recommend using Zone with H&G beacuse Dutch Master runs a bacteria free system which does not work well with Roots Excelurator. Peace!
Hi, I was wondering cany you use dutch master Zone with roots escellator. please let me know because the roots excellator is expansive but well worth it. we use zone to kill any unwanted bacteria in the res.
I made the switch from GH to your products 3 cycles ago. All I can say is WOW. Listen to me, if you aren’t using H&G because of the cost, believe me you’ll more than make it for it in your fruit weight, taste, smell and looks.
I do have one question: I’m currently using ebb/flo and was told that your products can’t be used in RCDWC (re-circulating deep water culture). Can you advise?
I am happy to hear that you are loving House and Garden so much. Regarding your question, House and Garden products are great to use in RDWC systems. In fact, House and Garden products do better than any other nutrient line on the market in RDWC systems. Happy gardening!
I am very impressed with what I have come up with so far out of using the HG line. I am happy to have found the best right out of the gate, as this will be my first attempt… blossoming into a success right now! Thank you all, and long live House and Garden!!!!
Thanks for the quick responses to my questions of the last few months.
Now for the results gleaned from you and the House & Garden site. I have been gardening for over 50 years and never had results even close to the following.
With a 3 week veg and 8 week flowering I managed just over 100% increase in my previous best harvest. And to outdo myself, my last harvest increased an additional 22%.
I have never had any product work anywhere close to the House & Garden line. What a product . Best of the best.
I have been having continual trouble with the Aqua Flakes regimen burning my plants. It would happen about midway into bloom and it would happen quickly with no effective remedy (flushing with R/O water, etc.). I double-triple checked my measurements against the Feeding Chart and I was spot-on for my 20 gal. res..
Finally, I got around to measuring my Botanicare 20 gal. res.. It measured (with lid on, thermometer and pumps inside) only 17.5 gals. (filled to the brim). That means I had been overfeeding by over 10%. At this juncture, it was only 2 weeks into bloom and I was able to salvage the plants by flushing and foliar spray, however, they still showed some signs of burning until I further reduced the nutes to a 15 gal. mixture while still using 17.5 gals of water, in the res.. At that point, everything perked up and joy came to Mudville.
Moral of story…, don’t trust manufacturers to give the correct measurements of volume. If your having a problem, measure it yourself. I queried Botanicare about this but they did not respond.
Also…, better to err on the side of under-nuting than over-nuting.
Hey Rob
Meant you and Alan at the expo, you gentelmen were so awsome. I really feel that I got a wealth of information on home and garden products. All of the crew was awsome and so helpful. You Guys do have that family business spirit. Well to the point, I used your roots excellerator my results were imediate. Wow! Thanks for turning me on to your products. I am coming to humboldt soon I WILL HOOK UP WITH. hUMBOLDT WHOLESALE. Gregg
I’ve been using the full House and Garden line for over a year now, with great results. I grow in soil, and hear lots of opinions on the flushing process. Is there a recommended flushing process for the 2 to 3 day flush?
The recommended method for the 3 day pre-harvest flush is to flush aggressively with PH proper water. Be sure to start with fresh PH proper water for each of the 3 days. Peace!
Hi, i have been using your products for years and am awaiting amino treatment as i type this. I know you guys recommend great white because house and garden doesnt have a similar product available in the usa. I was just wondering if there is any other products you would recommend running with the complete H&G line?
Honestly speaking, Great White or Orca (not together of course) are truely the only things that I add to the House and Garden line up. It’s that good. Happy gardening!
Since i give nutrients multiple times a week is there any nutrients that shouldnt be used more than once. The only one i use for only one watering is top booster is that the correct use of the H&G line? The only real nutrient im not sure about is shooting powder but i have given it to my plants multiple times every week for the last 33 weeks with great success. I just want to make sure it isnt leaving a salt buildup that cant be removed by a flush that i do for the last couple days. Alao another quick question now i brought up flushing. How often and how much water should i use during a 2-3 day flush
The correct use for House and Garden is to feed every time you water, so you are following the feed chart correctly. GOOD JOB! That goes for Shooting Powder too, every time you water. I recommend adding Top Booster in the last 4 days of that week, so if you water 2 or 3 times in the latter part of the week then you can add Top Booster every time. Whether you’re using the Cocos formula or the other base nutrients, 2-3 days of aggressive flushing with fresh PH proper water is quite enough time beacuse there is no salt build up to be flushing out. After all, House and Garden is the cleanest nutrient line on the market today. Peace!
hi im using ebb n flo 1.8 ec ph 5.8-60 2 wks into flower using aqua nuts n root excel+ hydrogene peroxide once a week. im gonna be using bud xl and ur pk 13/14 everything is looking great. My q is is,is it ok to use peroxide and can i use my airstone ?i keep getting different answers everywhere thanks paul
You definitely don’t want to be using hydrogen peroxide with House and Garden, especially when you’re using Roots Excelurator. The hydrogen peroxide will kill all the beneficials in the Roots Excelurator. Go ahead and use air stones, but make sure that they aren’t bubbling too much because you can lose nutrients that way. Peace!
HI just to @sk if there is any problem with me using your aqua flakes, for flowering in the middle of the second week now, and using BAC bloom stim. I plan to stick with the bac bloom stim, hold the ec to bout 1.2- 1.4 with aqua flakes. I d like to finish with shooting powder which i hve aswell. Ne conflictions with me using bac bloom stim ?
Depending on how large the mother plant is will help determine how much to feed her. Assuming that the plant is at least 2 feet tall, I would start with 5.5ml/gallon and go from there. You probably won’t need more than 8ml/gallon to maintain, again depending on how big the plant is. Peace!
Hi, I am new to your line, but so far I am AMAZED! I am just about to start to flower, and I am concerned with how much I should feed. I have very healthy plants, with a very nice root base. I am growing in cocos, how much should I be feeding them daily, each plant is in a 5 gal bucket. I was thinking for all 6 plants using 2-3 total gallons daily. Does a half gallon per plant sound right? It will be broken down into 6 separate feedings throughout the day.
I can’t really tell you how much water to use, only your plants can tell you that. I can tell you to definitely feed every time you water, and to be careful not to over water. It’s very easy to overwater with a coco medium because the coco holds moisture very well. Peace!
I am curious about how to use House and Garden products in a self contained DWC set up, ie. Bubble Buckets. Do I just follow the regular schedule or is there something different for this type of setup?
Thank you.
To start off with, I would recommend going with half strength on the base nutrients and additives. Those systems are very efficient and don’t require the full dose. Monitor your PPMs and see how much your plants are eating and then go up from there. Peace!
I’m currently employed at Green Joint Ventures hydroponic store in Salinas, California, where we sell your products. A customer was worried about buying our shooting powder because they were worried about how it had clumped/been compressed (probably during shipping or from just being stacked on each other). They are definitely stored in a cool dry area, and the packages are not open. Should we or our dedicated customers be worried about this compaction?
Also, I notice in a previous post you recommend a customer to use half strength in a DWC set up. Would you recommend the same for an NFT (nutrient film technique) system when using H&G?
I would recommend starting your nutrients at half and go from there. I haven’t run an NFT system myself, but there are some similarities to a DWC system. Just be sure to watch carefully and don’t starve them too much. Peace!
There’s no reason for concern with the Shooting Powder. It will tend to get compressed from shipping and what not. I try to break it up in the package before adding it to the feed water or you can add the package to a small bucket of water to make sure it dissolves completely, then add it to your reservoir or feed batch. Peace!
Hi,
I was wondering if chlorine or chloramine have an effect of the efficacy of roots excelurator? I have used r.e for one grow and seemed to have massive massive root systems, twice the size as without r.e. i am using unfiltered tap water from san francisco, and was recently told the chlorine would cancel out the r.e completely? is this true?
The chloramine/chlorine found in drinking water won’t affect the Roots Excelurator, at least it’s never been a problem for me. You can let the chloramine/chlorine dssapate from the water if you would like. I think that a 100 gallon reservoir would take about 24 hours or so. However, large amounts of chlorine or hydrogen peroxide will affect Roots Excelurator negatively. Peace!
Hi, I have been using HG products for about 3 years. I was using the soil a/b with roots organic soil by aurora. The last time I went, they didn’t have any and my guy sold me on the sunshine #4. I like the soil but I noticed all my plants look deficient. I noticed that somebody else recommended aquaflakes instead of soil for sunshine mix. Can I still use the soil a/b? I buy the big 2.5gallon bottles and don’t want to throw any of the fert away. Should I just mix it stronger?
Also, the roots accelerator is a fantastic product, but at several hundred dollars per liter, could you guys design a better pour spout? When using such small amounts it is hard to pour without going everywhere and I hate seeing my money drip all over the floor.
One free tip I’ll share-
I buy the big jugs to save money and a good way of doing controlled amounts into your measuring cup is to by syrup pumps from the restaurant supply.
We do recommend using Aqua flakes with Sunshine #4, but you can use Soil A/B also. We’ve found that the Aqua Flakes just takes you further, in that you use less nutrients because they are formulated stronger and the end product is better too. I would recommend that you mix the base nutrients stronger. There is a window between “normal” and “aggressive” amounts on the feed chart, so you can adjust the base nutrients according to what your plants need. I’ll pass the suggestion on about the design change on the Roots Excelurator bottle, and just to let you know, you can buy pour spouts for your large bottles of nutrients to make it esier to deal with. Peace!
quick question… shooting powder used to be 2.6 grams per gal. now the calculator is stating 6.76grams/gal for week 1 and 13.52 grams/gal for the following weeks. wont that cause serious burn at that rate. why did it exceed double the normal rate?
Hello! I love the quality of your products. I have a question about yellowing. I’m using aqua flakes in a soiless medium. I have been following the chart dead on to a ph of 6.5. My well water is very low ppm of 30.
I know yellowing of old growth is a sign of nitrogen difficiency. I’m afraid to increase overall feeding and burn them. Am I missing something, all the new growth looks fine. Should I add more algen extract. Or look into an expired bottle? Any advise would be helpful.
Your PH window is 5.8 to 6.3. So 6.5 will be a little high and may be contributing to the yellowing. Remember too, the “normal” and “aggressive” amounts on the feed chart create a window for you to work with regarding your base nutrients. Peace!
Hello,
first of all I would like to thank you guys for putting out such a superior line. My question is what would you recommend as a micro nutrient if I cant get a hold of your Trace Mix?.. Also what is the N-P-K on the Trace Mix? Thanks again
Hi, after looking at the UK site i noticed there are plenty of products not available in the states. I was recommended great white for that reason but was wondering if you guys had a suggestion for a good trace elements nute that would be comparable to trace mix. Also if you guys have any other suggestions of different nutrients to add to the complete H&G line please let me know. Thanks again for always being fast to answer my questions. Also if flowers start to show by the end of week two am i supposed to start budxl immediately and stop using multi zyme
Great White should be fine. Please follow the chart, DO NOT add Bud XL until instructed by the chart. The House and Garden scientists have been doing this for three generations in Holland, so they really know what they’re talking about. Peace!
If I am using a top feed drain to waste system with royal gold basement mix (mostly coco) as my medium what base nutrient do you recommend? And If I were to go organic what products do you recommend to use with the bio 1 comp for this setup?
Hi I noticed Alegen Extract in your nutriant line reads to only use in vegatative in the US. I also noticed it contains macro nutriants that is needed for feeding soilless mediums such as peat moss. Should I use other brand nutriants for macros as I am new and slowly shifting to HG? I currently use aqua flakes for my base and am wondering if that will do the trick for flowering feeding my garden macros. Maybe AE you would work occasionally during flowering maybe?? How does that work?
Algen Extract is made from seaweed and used as a growth stimulator as well as macro nutrients. It’s only used in the veg state because once the flowering stage has begun, there’s no need to stimulate growth upwards. Multizen should be fine for you to use in your flowering cycle. Peace!
Sometimes magnetic pumps can pull out the iron in the nutrients, but it shouldn’t affect House and Garden because of the type of iron that we use. Peace!
Thank you for the great products. Been using soil a/b for few years now with great results. Just got a growonix r/o system. Do I need to add cal mag to the filtered water every time i feed, even if I’m using all of your recommended products. I also use great white mychorizae once a week during 3 weeks veg will that affect your nutrient line. What should I be aware of when using r/o water?
For RO water some people add cal-mag back into the water to 150ppm before adding the base nutrients, every time you feed. However, I know people that don’t add anything to their RO water, just House and Garden. Keep using the Great White, it will be fine. Peace!
You don’t have to use RO water with House and Garden. People use it beacuse of the water they get out of the tap (not good enough for them) or it’s their personal preference. Peace!
Good afternoon, I purchased this product and had a doubt about the bactoforce, and was using this product if I can plant directly on substrates that have been recently harvested plants, thanks and greetings.
hi i will be doing an 8 week flowering cycle and thers a few questions i hope you can help me with.
1) is the TOP BOOSTER supposed to be used in a single one off watering only? if so do i have to use it alone with out mixing any other nutes? and would i have to change the water in the system after?
2) can i use BUD XL and TOP SHOOTER GELl together in one watering? i am using single bucket bubbler and normally feed twice a week wed and sun and top up with fresh water on the second feed. would i have to completely change the water 3 days after using top shooter gel?
You’ll want to apply Top Booster in the final 3-4 days of week 5, every time you water. If you’re running a system with a reservoir, then you can add the Top Booster right to your reservoir for the final 3-4 days of the week. I recommend doing a water change after you use Top Booster. For weeks 6,7, and 8, use Top Shooter and Bud XL together along with the base nutrients. You can add nutrients according to how much fresh water you have added, you don’t have to do a complete water change every time. Just follow the feed chart and you will be fine. Peace!
I’ve used H&G for a while and I started fighting root rot ever since I swtched from muitzime to muitzen is there a difference that all of us as customers need to know or add to our list now
Root rot is mainly caused by the water temperature being too high. Your temperature window for your water is 62-68 F. The Multizyme and Multizen are the same product, the name had to be changed to protect the innocent. Peace!
Hello, can you tell me if House & Garden nutrients are safe to use for edible vegetable plants? (lettuce, tomatoes, beans, etc.)
thanks and kind regards,
-dave
Couldn’t help but noticed you upgraded the nute chart with ‘amino treatment’ and ‘ nitrogen boost’. Which brand do u recommend or are you guys gonna be selling it?
At last I’ve found a good source of H&G info. Thanks for going to the trouble. I hope the fellas down here do likewise soon, as it is pretty hard to find good reliable advice, particularly when needed most.
I’d recently had pythium probs. and lots of leaf burn. Got rid of the ‘rot’ with Fongarid and had the roots racing again with Excelurator (brilliant!) but the leaves kept burning until week 2 of flowering. It seems Algen may have been responsible, ie the recommended feed chart rate here is 1ml per litre (in my case that’s 60ml per tank) while you have it at 15.79ml for 60 litres? This may also explain why the roots are stained brown?
One further question please; I had hoped to use shooting powder again but have been warned that the plants must be really healthy before using? I’m reasonably sure the pythium is long gone as have the scarids that came after
Many thanks, Cheers Peter
The dose for Algen Extract is 1-2ml/gallon, not per liter. So that’s where the problem is. Pythium is generally caused from the water temperature being too high, the widow is 62-68F so maybe that’s where it came from to begin with. I’m happy to hear that you’ve fixed the problem. I wouldn’t recommend using Shooting Powder if the plants aren’t healthy enough to take it. Peace!
Hello Alan,
Thanks muchly for your kind response and sound advice. Lucky I flushed well a few times. Can’t understand how they haven’t been made a aware of such a serious mistake. Thanks also for clearing up a few other things in the earlier questions and replies. Good stuff!
Cheers, Peter
How are you , at the moment i am using advanced line of nutes. Im not sure but i think i dont like using it . so far i have issues with yellow tips, nute burn i guess but my nutes dose is very low and no matter what i do i cant seem to correct it .. how does your product compare? is it easy to use for the beginner ?
also im using sunshine mix #4 advanced, will your nutes work well with this soiless meduim , or do you recomend a better meduim ? I dont know whats best to use. i want to make this garden as easy and nute issue free as possible.
For Sunshine MIx #4, I would recommend the Aqua Flakes as your base nutrient. House and Garden is a cleaner nutrient by far and is very user friendly for beginners. I hope you make the switch. Peace!
I’ve been looking into your products for a week and I’d like to know if you approve of my reservoir mixing.I will be maintaining a 25 gallon reservoir with a 450 gph pump inside pumping the water up, and spraying it back into the reservoir for excellent mixing and aeration. I will be using drippers to water individual plants from the 25 gallon reservoir. I will be using your Coco and full supplement line.I read on your FAQ page above that “Aqua Flakes is formulated to handle a large electrical pump whereas Coco is not.” Any advice on proper reservoir mixing and maintenance would be appreciated. I’m planning on adding myco into my res and some molasses any feedback would be helpful. What about silica just for fun.
As long as you aren’t recirculating the Cocos nutrients, you will be fine. The Cocos formula is designed for a drain to waste system only. Be sure to use Drip Clean to keep your drip lines clean, and follow the mixing instructions on the feed chart. Peace!
hi H+G,i need your help/advise.i use coco medium and i am hand feeding them,i am currently in the top booster phase but have accidently put almost double the amount instead of the 60 ml top booster in my 40ltr nutrient tank.will putting that much more have a adverse effect on my flower’s?and if so what should i do.thanks for any help.
I would recommend to change that water and start over. You might burn your plants with that much Top Booster. If you’ve already watered with that batch, a quick flush would be a good thing to do also. Peace!
I run an ebb and flow system and I got some super shocked babies. To ease the stress I ran Roots Excelurator with Superthrive. Then after a few days, I added a little Amino treatment, and a little nitro boost for two weeks. It did well in stress relief, but the growing was askew with usual problems (ie Curling leaves, yellowing…).
Tonight I cleaned the Rez and added a full line of H&G products according to the nutrient calculator. I only skipped MultiZen which I will add in a few days.
The question is if I should still use superthrive win all the H&G stuff now? Or just stop using superthrive altogether now….?
Hi there, I would like to know the differences in the nutrient profile for the cocos line and the aqua flakes? I noticed the coco has more potassium, any other changes? Also, should I expect any problems if using a soilless mix (50 coco/50 perlite)? Thanks!
What’s up H&G, I was wondering how long of a ph balanced water flush I should use with coco (I currently do 10-14 days) and how you would recommend that cycle? Let’s say for example that the seed flower package recommends a 70 day flowering period. Should I use the recommendations on your nutrient calculator for a 10 week flower period and flush an extra 2 weeks, or 8 week flower period and just flush for the last 2? Thanks for your opinion and an unmatched nutrient line.
With House and Garden there’s no need for these long required flushing times because there is no salt build up to flush out If you have used only H&G, then you only need to flush for 3 days, just like the chart says. So, use the 10 week chart and flush for 3 days. Peace!
Hello Alan,
Thanks again for your excellent advice. I hope you don’t mind too much if I ask one more question with reference to my previous posts? As it seems Shooting powder would not be right this time, how would Top booster go bearing in mind it will be for week 5 of 8 flowering and buds have been going nicely for approx. 3 weeks already?
Wiil be using Hydro base, Excelurator, Bud XL, Nutriboost and Drip Clean. Oh, by the way, this is my first grow using only H&G (except for Nutriboost.).
You can add Top Booster in week 5. Add it into the reservoir for the last 3-4 days of week. Top Booster is basically “fall in a bottle”. It will signal your plants to shut down and to focus the energy to the fruit and not to the maintenance of the plant. Peace!
1. I heard that its not good to use HG with air stones in a reservoir, that a pump works better. My buddy who is turning me on to this uses air stones and everything seems ok. Does it make that big of a difference?
2. I heard there are major ph fluctuations in ebb and flow aqua flakes. Within a day 5.8 can easily become 6.1? Why? I’ve read that on a few threads, and spoken to a few hydro store guys. So it doesn’t seem isolated.
3. Since you are in concentrate, when topping off the reservoir in ebb and flow, it seems that the calculators numbers can’t really help. Sometimes I would only add a gallon or two of water with some AN line, but the numbers on your calculator seem like they are really high of nutes for a small amount of water to top off with.
4. Another question about the concentrate, my buddy had to lower his flood timer to 12min over 15min, which he had with the AN line. The leaves would wilt heavily at 15, but seem ok at 12. Would that be the cause of you being more of a concentrate line?
5. Finally, I saw on these threads that you don’t always have to fully clean out your reservoir each week with HG? Why is that?
Thank you for your time, your product is very interesting. But it’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks!
Air stones cause some minor foaming in the reservoir. I use air stines too and all works well for me, so go ahead and use them if you’d like to. The only time I know about “major” PH fluctuations is when people use Hygrozyme. So we recommend to not use that product with H&G. It’s ok to have some PH drift because different nutrients are available to the plants at different PH levels. For your system, the PH window is 5.8-6.3 so there is some leeway there. If you don’t trust the Nutrient Calculator then don’t use it. I think it takes less time to to do my own calculations then to input numbers into the computer so that it’ll tell me the same information. Especially if i’m topping off. As far as the flood timer, I haven’t ever heard of leaves wilting because the tables/buckets were flooding too long. I’ve been running flood systems for over 10 years and have never had a problem like that so I don’t really know what to say. The reason for not having to completely chang your water every week is beacuse the H&G uses beneficial biological life within the line, and when you change out the water every week, you can’t take full advantage of that. Peace!
You want to feed every time you water. So, if you’re on week 2 of veg, and you’re at 9.5ml/gallon of A and B, then you will mix a batch of feed water with that dose, every time you water that week. For flushing, you will flush aggressively for 3 days with PH proper water. Use fresh PH proper water for every day that you flush. Peace!
If your strain is different then before, that might be it. Some strains require less nutrients then others. It’s OK to go lower then the chart on the base nutrients if you need to. Peace!
Thank you gentleman for making the best nutrient line out there,I am very impressed so far.In regards to a previous post about using hygrozyme with H&G,does that apply to soil as well?
Havent seen a big flucuation, but wondered about switching to Great White. Thanks guys for making it available across the pond here.
I definitely recommend Great White, it’s a great product, and it happens to be the only non H&G product that I use. I really notice the PH fluctuations with Hygrozyme in the hydroponic setups the most. But, if you start having problems, you know where to start looking first. Peace!
House and Garden doesn’t make a flushing/ leaching solution beacause there is no salt to flush/leach out if you have used all H&G on your crop. You can flush with proper PH water for 3 days. Peace!
H&G,
I just picked up a bottle of Amino Treatment and was wondering if it would be a problem using a bloom stimulant that also contains amino acids with the Amino Treatment?
Thanks,
Bill
The Amino Treatment should be fine with your bloom stimulant that has aminos in it. I would always recommend to do a test with one or two plants when you’re unsure of something like this. Peace!
I use cocos and all your other nutes. I love amino treatment; way sturdier and lots more lateral branching. No more need for staking strains that needed it before. Anyways, I am wondering if it’s cool if I cut my coco with 15% of either rockwool croutons or perlite. I’ve always just run it strait but am using those soft bottom pots and have noticed some more compacting with them, but I love the pots anyways. Anywho, thanks for the great products that help me make the best product. Much appreciated.
Hi, recently I tried CANNA but had a bad experience. Historically I used Pro mix BX, a soiless mix without adding any amendments like dolomite lime. Out of the variety of CANNA base nutrients I chose Terra because it stated it was for soil or soiless mixes. This was a terrible mistake and the garden looks like yellow garbage. I was told by CANNA that I should have used their Substra A/B product, which states it is for hydrponic systems and the reason why I did not choose it initially. I was told by CANNA that If I amended the soiless mix with lime I would have been ok with Terra. I was so angry at their ambiguous labeling, I decided to use your full line instead. I read that either Pro mix or Sunshine 4 is well suited for Aqua flakes A/B, which I purchased. Now I want to be certain if I should or should not amend the Sunshine 4 with dolomite lime at a 1 tablespoon per gallon of mix. Thanks J
Well, I’m sorry you had a bad experience, but I’m happy that you’re with us now. The Aqua Flakes will be perfect for your soiless mix and you don’t have to add any lime. Aqua Flakes is formulated pretty strong, so please follow the feed chart and you will be fine. On your first week, I would recommend to go a little lighter on the base nutrients until you see what your strain likes. We’re here for you if you have any trouble. Peace!
I had a question regarding amino treatment, can i use as a foliar application? Knowing amino acids can be absorbed through the stomas of the plant. Thank you.
When flowering, how can I tell what product to use in between the weekly scheduled feedings. So if I use a&b every watering how about the top booster, multi zen, shooting powder, etc…
How Can I achieve dense flowers using h&g line as if I was using gravity with the fox farm line. My flowers does not seem to be as hard & dense since I switched to h&g. Although the shooting powder is amazing. I’m aiming for hard & dense.
Molasses isn’t really necessary with House and Garden beacuse we have Bud XL. Bud XL is an enzyme that will extract the sugars that are within the leaves and make them available to the fruit, so as to sweeten naturally without having to add sweetener. Peace!
I recently started using soil ab and roots excel. I want to add great white, how do you recommend I mix the gw in. Will it be ok to add to the water I mix the soil ab and roots excel in or should it be mixed in a separate container?
Hello,, Thanks for the help,, I just a couple of questions,,
I was wondering,, is it good to add a co2 tank to the room to help the plants feed ?
this question gets compounded w/ the fact that sometimes in the room being too hot, like in summer time, I need to have the AC unit working,, is the AC not good in general for the plants and also if I use it , should I turn it off when the co2 is on the room ?
thanks very much .
CO2 is great for your plants and an AC unit is fine. I would suggest that you make sure that your room temperature is under control and dialed in before you add the CO2. Peace!
I’m growing in soil. I’m week 7 into a 8 week flowering cycle. My plant looks under feed. Do to the fact that I was only feeding h&g line once a week with fresh water in between feedings. What can I do to make the best of my situation? I’m still confused about flushing my plants in soil aggressively for 3 days. Am I suppose to harvest with saturated soil?
At this point I would feed them a little more. If they’re looking like they need more food then up your base nutrients when you mix a batch up. You can harvest with wet soil as long as the soil is flushed. If you want to let the soil dry out a little, then wait a few more days before you harvest. Nothing bad will happen to your plants, we’re only talking about a few days. Please remember that our charts and the nutrient calculator are only suggested amounts and that sometimes a little tweeking is involved to give the plants what they need. This type of gardening is alot of feel and observation, it’s not like baking a cake with a recipe. This is the fun part of what we do, figuring out how to get the best out of the plants we have and learing from our mistakes so the next harvest is better then the last one. Peace!
Alls I gotta say about H & G is that they are a superb company with AMAZING! customer service they truly great people. And thats besides how top of the line there products are. And no I do not work for them. Just am very happy with the service they provided me. A pleasure would be an Understatement to say the least. Big shout out to Alan! N rob. Thank you very much for your kind help.
hello H & G,
What is your opinion on using a humic acid such as NUTS (MAD FARMER) or sweet (botonicare) along with your line up (aqua flakes a/b in hydroten)?
Thank you.
guys – just purchased new under current system – under current rep says to mix nutrients half strength and less frequent nutrient change – what is your thoughts on this and if they are right what would i use for 3 week veg and 7 week flower – thanks
Just follow the feed chart for a short crop veg cycle and go half strength on the nutrients. For flowering, you can follow the 6 week chart and add a week at the end or you can follow the 8 week chart and take a week away in the beginning. Those Under Current systems are very efficient and give incredible yields. Peace!
Hey, I just got a new package of shooting powder and the ingredients are potassium phosphate instead of potassium oxide. Was there a change or is it a typo? I also noticed the algen extract says it’s derived from nitric acid, ammoinium nitrate and potassium oxide, but no mention of kelp or algae. Are these products used to extract the seaweed or is it a typo? I would appreciate it being cleared up for me. Thanks.
I am using your Aqua Flakes with all the additives in an eight waterfarm setup. I am currently on about day 60 and have been flushing for about five days. I want to harvest four of the plants and then I was wondering if it would be ok to go back into using nutrients on the remaining four for about another 2-3 weeks and then flush again? Thanks for the help and love your products.
The only thing wrong with letting four of the plants go for another few weeks is that you have already used Top booster and Bud XL. These two products have told the plants to shut down, so I don’t know how well they would do after that. At that point I would also worry about the product getting too “overdone”. Peace!
This is my second grow using the entire H&G line. My current crop is in week 2 of flowering and all the leaves are turning a pale lime-green color. I just used Magic Green (5 mL/gal) and it didnt help. I am in coco, drip run to waste and following the nute calculator to a T. Also, running RO water and flushing every two weeks and using Great White. Any suggestions? Could it just be an N deficiency?
Sounds to me like the plants need more food. Try adding more base nutrients to the mix. There is window between the “normal” and “aggressive” amounts on the base nutrients. This window is there for you to adjust the base nutrients as to what your strain likes. Some like more nutrients then others. It could be a nitrogen deficiency, but I would try to add more base nutrients first. You can also download the feed chart itself from the website. You don’t need to flush every two weeks with House and Garden, there isn’t any salt build up. Peace!
Do you recommend Great White with your Cocos A/B line (I’m in pots.)
Also, a friend highly recommended Dark Energy. Every hear of it? You see compatibiity issues?
“Dark Energy™ is a unique blend of select L- amino acids, vitamins and proprietary bionutrients. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins, enzymes, hormones and tissues which are essential to the structure and metabolism of plants. The powerful L-amino acids contained within Dark Energy™ are extracted from natural sources via enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation. This ensures the amino acids are extracted in L-form, which is the only form absorbed and utilized by plants.”
I wouldn’t recommend using Bushmaster with anything. I thought that it was pulled from the shelves because it had cancer causing growth regulators in it. However, I guess if you decide to use it, it’s compatible with House and Garden. Peace!
I’ve been doing some research about your products and I must say that I will be making a switch from the nutrient line I’m currently using.
I do have a question about the pot system I’m using and if your nutrient line will be “safe” with how much pot system functions. I’m currently using PowerGrower Eco Complete individual pot systems. The system uses small air pumps to oxygenate the nutrients and force the nutrients up into the drip rings. I have read what you’ve mentioned about using air diffusers in the reservoirs, but I’m concerned about my pot system and what will happen to the quality of the nutrients.
Please let me know if my style of pot systems are okay to use with your nutrients. Thank you!
That sounds like the old GH Dutch Bucket system, I used those for years. You’ll be fine with that system using Aqua Flakes as your base nutrient. I know you won’t be dissappointed. Peace!
HI
Love the H & G Line plants never looked so good, One question:
I am growing in Coco in 7 gal pots. Watering twice a week. Should I use the Top Booster for both feeds on flower week 5, or should I use it once on the second feed of week 5? Currently watering on Sunday mornings & Wednesday evenings.
I see on the nutrient calculator it says use shooting powder at a rate of 4.6 g (1st week of use). The package says 1 – 2 65g sachets per 25 gallons of res.
(Running Coco, DTW, using your line)
which should I follow?
Also running a Ebb N Flow and wondering how I would use the shooting powder in Hydro. I have a 40 gal res
That might be an error, the dose if you want to weigh it out is 2.6 grams/gallon for the first week of Shooting Powder and 5.2 grams/gallon for the last 2 weeks. You can also use it as it says on the package, 1 sachet per 25 gallons water for the first week or 2 sachets per 25 gallons water for the last 2 weeks. Peace!
Im using Soil A/B and along with the rest of the line, my question is how many days in between each feed? I’ve heard Feed/Feed/Water with 2 days in between each, but if I wait 2 days my girls look very dry and start sagging.
You want to feed every time you water. The time in between isn’t written in stone, it really depends on how big your plants are and how big the pots are. I tell people to water when the soil is dry and the plants are just beginning to look a little limp. Peace!
Hey guys, thanks for having such great products! I use Aqua Flakes but have switched some things up and looking for guidance on my new system. So I am trying a DWC/Bubbleponics hydro setup with the plants directly in a 20gal bin.
Do I need to drain the system every week and replace entire 20 gal with new h2o/nutes based on the feeding calendar? If not, should I only adding the amount to top off? Meaning if at the end of the week we are down to 15 gal, do I just add 5 gal with nutes based on the 5 gal I am adding to the bin? Also, if I need to top off before the end of the week, should the h2o be with or without nutes? I am assuming with or I wouldnt be adding much “fresh” nutes at the end of the week. Or, if I do top off without nutes, should i just do a partial drain at the end of the week and replace what I drain? Sorry if this is confusing, but think thats why I am confused! Would love your opinion on the best way for me to go on this, thanks!!
With that system all you need to do top off for the new week and add the nutrients according to how much fresh water you have added. If you need to top off during the week, lets say in the middle of the week, you can add fresh nutrients to that water. If you need to top off and you only have a day or two left in the week, then just add water and adjust your PH. It’s really not as confusing as it sounds. You can do a total water change about every 3 weeks. I’m sure you’ll figure it out. Peace!
What types of grow medium to you recommend for all of the product bases. Right now i use sunleaves rocks for the aqua and pro mix for soil. Just wanted your input and see what you guys have tried. Thanks
For the Cocos A/B you need at least 30% coco medium and a drain to waste system. For Aqua Flakes you can use any soiless medium such as hydroton and rockwool, but also including including Pro Mix and Sunsine #4 and all spagma peat moss based products. We have gotten feedback from people who have used the Aqua Flakes with spagma peat moss based products and they have preferred it over the Soil A/B. Peace!
I bought some of your algen extract about a year and a half ago to mix with my base nutes for veg. My question is will it still be usable after so long the lid was on tight and kept in a dark place but temps got to 105 for a high and just about freezing for a low and the algen extract has become real thick and will almost not pour out of the bottle, it still smells the same and doesn’t have bad smell, so is it ok to add a little water and still use it or should i buy a new bottle? Thanks for your help
What’s up H&G, new user n got ? running coco’s a&b through 50/50 coco perlite mix n can’t seem to get plant’s in veg that nice dark green i like to see. i do feed a lil above the normal feeding guidelines of ur calculator, should i be mixing nutes stronger or go Aqua flakes. i’ve heard that much perlite doesn’t do too well with coco’s a&b, figured i would like to do recirculating drip system with coco 50/50 perlite mix. i read people have done that with great results. Thanks for ur help.
The Cocos A/B is formulated for a drain to waste system, not a recirculating system. That might be part of your problem. You’ll want to use Aqua Flakes. Peace!
been using your a&b coco and I’m noticing yellow leaves and brown rust colored spots, basically deficiency. I am using your charts and am using a small amount of cal mag since I use r.o. water. can you help. thanks.
Sounds like deficiency. When adding cal mag to RO water, make sure that you add it in first to 150 PPM, then add your base nutrients, then adjust your PH. On the chart you have a window between “normal” and “aggressive” amounts for the base nutrients. You are free to add more nutrients if your plants need them. Also, just to make sure, for Cocos A/B you need to be running a drain to waste system. Peace!
Need help, currently im running a flood and drain table. 30 gal resovoir and using only aqua flakes A+B. I adjust pH to 5.8 and in the next week pH is 6.3 so its in range. I use ro water at 0 ppm and E.C is at 0, i also veg 2 weeks same nutes and water quality, now why would at week 2 of bloom i start seeing symptoms of defienciencies? Yellow spots and sum burns on foliage??
Since you’re using RO water, you might have to add in some cal mag to 150ppm before you add your Aqua Flakes. You might have to increase your base nutrients too. Peace!
hi i am using house and garden component with my grow and am in flower stage , i am finding that i am using alot more than the recommended 5ml per litre to gain an EC of 1.8 is this normal ?? i use approx 11 liters of water each time i mix up a bucket for feed and im sure my blue lab wand is fine i always rinse after use , any1 got any info ill be really happy to hear from u vantigglen
That number does seem a little high, however you didn’t mention any problems that your plant are having. So if your plants are healthy, just keep doing what you’re doing. Peace!
hi , ur correct i dont seem to be having any problems and am continuing the good work .. with so far good results , however i do seem to be using way more than i used to , is it watered down more than old stuff or something lol i guess ill just bat on but its £15 a liter here in england hopefully 2 feeds a week is enough , gotta say the top boost is epic , and shooting powder too if ur carefull with it , thanks for the reply , be nice to no for sure why it uses so much !! it even dropped my ph to 5.5 and im using soil .. thats 1.8 ec , 5.5 ph next ill ph the run off , peace to all with love Van tigglen
A good sign of a strong strain is the ability to take a fair amount of nutrients, so it isn’t all bad. I’ll bet that you have a great yield off this crop. The factory has purchased new and better equipment to make a better product for the loyal H&G users. There has been much debate and question about this because people have noticed some products appear to be thinner in consistency. Let me assure you, there has been no comprimise in the quality of product at all. In fact, a thinner consistency of the liquid will ensure that the product dissolves and mixes better and faster than before. Peace!
kool kool i appreiate u getting back to me they do look very healthy with big shiney green leaves ( never a bad sign ) n no leaf curl or yellow tips as yet so all good i look forward to the new stuff was also wondering how can i get a calcium additive thats in the u.k for bloom stage as i no the H&G dont have it as an additive , i see u recommend cutting edge but they dont deliever to anywhere other than usa where can i get a calcuim additive in the uk ?? all the best alan
hello allan i really want to know about what calcium additive to add to my feed as i no there isnt any calcium in the house&garden range would really like to no ur response and please dont say cutting edge as they dont deliver to anywhere outside the usa
Switched to Great White and found it to be more economical then Hygrozyme, thanks for the tip guys.In a recent post You said Aqua Flakes was preferred by some people over Soil. How much calmag is in Aqua Flakes? Some of my plants require quite a bit of calmag. Happy New Year everyone at H&G.
I’m happy to hear that you switched from Hygrozyme, it’s been known to cause PH fluctuations with H&G. In the post you’re referring to, I believe I was talking about Aqua Flakes over Soil when using a spagma peat moss based medium like Pro Mix or Sunshine #4. I don’t know exactly how much cal and mag is in Aqua Flakes, but you can always add some if you need to. Peace!
I love house and garden started with just a and b now i am using almost the whole line. My question is can i use Bud XL and top booster along with a bestie blooms, cha ching and open sesame? How about over drive along with top booster? Thank You
I wouldn’t recommend mixing additives with additives. It’s safe to use House and Garden additives with other base nutrients or House and Garden base nutrients with other additives. Please remember that the H&G nutrient line does best when used by itself. Peace!
I am going to be trying House & Garden nutrients for the first time soon and was wondering if I need to use the drip clean if I am using distilled water?
Thanks for your time and help
Mike
Yes, you want to feed every time you water. We use Bud XL instead of adding sweeteners. The Bud XL will extract the sugars within the leaves and transfer them to the fruit to sweeten naturally. Peace!
hey, just wondering how many feed cycles i should do during my 12hr light cycle? I am running ebb and grow in sealed room with co2 1k lights. Some people say 4 times for 15 min also when should i feed first and last? also my last run they were weak not solid? how about using sugar? also when should is the aggressive strength necessary to use????
I’ve run hydro systems for a while now and I feed 5 times in 24 hours. Don’t jump right up to aggressive strength. The normal and aggressive amounts for the base nutrients create a window for you to work within. You can monitor your PPM level during the week and step up the base nutrient levels slowly as you see that your plants are eating and can take more. Just be very carefull not to give them too much. Peace!
Thanks Allen. I live in mckville an NHS rocks. What’s up with the multi zin On the veg cycle now? Do I need the new nitrogen product? I flower 10 day into veg.
Some gardeners gave positive feedback on using Multizen during the veg cycle so the factory did some tests and decided to make it official. The Nitrogen Boost is great for those strains that need just a little bit more than the base nutrients provide, but be careful because it’s powerful stuff. Peace!
Hello Im a advanced nutrient user and ive herd great things about your products, i use great white and i have two questions about your Aqua Flakes base nutrient. 1# When using your Aqua Flakes base nutrient, along with promix-bx should i follow the feeding chart here online for Aqua flakes or should i be using the Soil A/B feeding chart. #2 when using Aqua Flakes with Promix-BX how should i feed and water if im not using your drip clean product? example for one week would i (FEED, WATER, FEED, WATER) OR (FEED, WATER, WATER, FEED). PLEASE HELP ME!!
When using Aqua Flakes with your Promix, use the Aqua Flakes chart. You’ll want to feed every time you water and use the “normal” amount of base nutrients or slightly less until you figure out how your plants will take the nutrients. If your still using some Advanced products, you really need to use Drip Clean to keep your salts under control. Peace!
I have one more question, when using Aqua Flakes with Promix-BX what PH should i use with my nutrient solution and water? Because Promix-Bx is very acidic (PH 5.5-6.0)
hey, first thank you for your time, you mentioned you feed 5 times in a 24hr period, are you watering in your night cycle? Also, i use only your products and I’ve run 4 cycles in 1.5 years, i noticed root rot at the end if i water more than 4 times, also any sugars at the end??
Yes, I do water during the night cycle, and it’s 4 times not 5, I made a typo there. I know this goes against conventional thinking, but I’ve done it this way for a while now with no adverse affects. Sometimes there can be some water in the bottom of the bucket and if the roots are big enough, they can sit in the water and get root rot. I also have a friend that is very successful with this type of system and he waters 2 times in a 12 hour cycle. He waters once when the lights go on, and just before the lights go off. So, as you can see, there are different ways of going about it. H&G doesn’t add sugars, we have Bud XL which extracts the sugars that are within the leaves and tranfers them to the fruit. You can experiment if you so desire. Peace!
Ok I’m going to purchase Drip Clean. But I read years ago that anything high in phosphorus will cause nutrient lookout in your plants. And when I read the N-P-K on Drip Clean it has a 18 in phosphorus. Can I get nutrient lookout when using drip clean? And if so then what can I do to avoid this from happening? Again I use promix-bc and I’m going to use aqua flakes along with a few of advanced nutrients additives. Thank you for your help
The dose for Drip Clean is only 0.4ml/gal, so it doesnt affect the plants like you’re giving them a big shot of PK. Unless you’re giving more then the recommended dose, I don’t think that’s the ptoblem. The Drip Clean will only help you keep your salts broken down with the Advanced additives you’re using. Peace!
if 10-12 days into flowering n want to get plants a lil greener is it a bad idea to add .5 ml per gal of algen extract n .5-1 ml of nitrogen boost to the 2nd week flowering week feeding chart n feed it once or twice maybe? they can eat everyday so figure feed 1 or 2 times may not hurt too much. Please reply at ur earliest convenience as i’m not sure what to do, Thanks for ur help
Maybe you just need to increase the base nutrients a little. Either that or use a foliar spray like Magic Green. I wouldnt recommend giving the plants nitrogen at this point in flowering. The Algen Extract is more of a growth stimulator so i wouldn’t recommend that either. Peace!
I am in the process of changing my aeroponics system over to H&G products. I have a bottle of Humbolt Roots that I have been using and would like to know if I could I use this instead of Root Excelurator.
So far, impressive results. If I observe signs of nutrient burn and decide to water using half the recommended levels of base nutrients for the next watering; would I also halve the recommended measurement for additives?
Thanks, J
I recently purchased your complete Coco line in the states everything is working well. Now I’d like to germinate some seeds in coco,I’ve never done seeds in coco and I am wondering how to accomplish this using your products.OR should I maybe add a drop of superthrive ?Can roots excelorator and grate white get them started.
Once the seeds have popped and they are in the medium, the recipe is 2.5ml/gallon of A, 2.5ml/gallon of B, 1ml/gallon Roots Excelurator. If you need help to pop the seeds, let me know. Peace!
A question on the dilution rate for shooting powder- the nute calculator says to add 1.0-2.0 mL/gal. The package says 1-2 sachets (65 g-130g) per 25 gal or 2.6-5.2 g/gal. Which is correct?
I just went to the nutrient calculator and it seems there are some typos for Shooting Powder on the odd week flowering cycles. When the dose is 1 sachet / 25 gallons, that breaks down to 2.6 grams/gallon. When the dose is
2 sachets / 25 gallons, that breaks down to 5.2 grams/gallon. Peace!
Thanks for the answer. The reason I asked is because right now I am using ro water , I add cal mag. But I am getting brown in the middle part off the leafs. What do you think could be the problem. Using coco .
There seems to be an epidemic of people using cal-mag additives without treating a problem. Just because you’re using RO water, you don’t have to use cal-mag. You may have a case of too much calcium. Toxic levels of calcium also exaggerate the deficiencies of potassium, magnesium, manganese, and iron. Even if the nutient is present, they become unavailable. Too much calaium too soon in the early stages of development can also stunt the growth of the plant. I would suggest to cut out the cal-mag and see if that fixes the problem. There is calcium in H&G nutrients already. Peace!
why is it that on the nute cal for flowering 8 weeks n under u recommend use Amino Treatment but not for weeks 9? is it cause they haven’t got around to changing it, or cuz the other shorter weeks need it? Thanks for all ur help
We just discovered that the odd numbered weeks on the nutrient calculator has some wrong information on it. We are working on fixing the problem. Sorry for the inconvenience. Peace!
Can you use Algen Extract in an ebb and flow type soil less system with a 25 gal res? Just wondering because it says mix in small batches to make sure it stay fresh. Can I just top feed with Roots excel mixed with water when I am vegging (still going to flood and drain with Aqua flakes but just dont want to have to waste so much roots excel every res change) Thank You!! I love H & G!!
Yes, you can use Algen Extract in a flood and drain. What it says on the feed chart is that the Algen Extract is made in small batches, so you always know that it will be fresh. I don’t recommend to top feed with Roots Excelurator and water, it’s meant to be added to the feed water. You don’t have to do a complete water change every week. You can easily go 2-3 weeks between water changes. You can top off with water and add the nutrients according to how much fresh water you have added. Peace!
I am introducing Amino Treatment into my 9 week cycle — at week 5. I’ve been using Aqua Flakes and the full range of additives — except for Nitrogen Boost and Amino Treatment — since they haven’t been locally available. They just arrived at the stores, and I have them in hand. I’d like to sneak the Amino Treatment in for this 5th week — as the Nutrient Calculator instructs. However, I’m wondering if I should put in the full recommended dose — since I haven’t gradually been building up to it over the weeks. Will it shock the plants? What do you recommend?
[Plus, I have to say that the recommended 133 ml (for my 35 gallon reservoir) is a fair percentage of that little bottle and so will end up being prohibitively expensive (I do understand that I don't need to change the reservoir weekly, but still...). I guess I'm assuming that I'll need to use more than one bottle per grow -- which has not been the case for your other wonderful products. As has been pointed out, expensive to buy, but well worth it over time. But my first impression of the Amino Treatment is that it may end up being very (or too) expensive for ebb and flow.]
At any rate, I am a huge fan of H&G, and though skeptical of grandiose claims, your products are great and deserve all the accolades they get!
At this point I would not recommend adding the Amino Treatment in week 5 for only 1 week, and if you do anyway, definitely don’t use the 3.8ml/gallon dose. The first dose starts at 0.8ml/gallon in week 1 of veg. I would recommend starting the right way on the next run. Peace!
I am curious if a Micro nutrient would be beneficial to run with House and Garden nutrient line. Say the Advanced Nutrients Micro. I use the complete H&G line but am not sure if using it would overdue some of the Micro Nutes. Is there any Nutrients offered in europe that isn’t offered in the USA that another line carries that could be beneficial to adding to your line. I understand that is info that you wouldn’t want to give due to your customers buying competitors products but if you guys haven’t been able to release it yet and it would be beneficial I would really appreciate the info. I know Europe has a Trace Elements available by H&G. IDK if the USA nutes are formulated different. Also is PK 13-14 similar to top booster? Sorry for this many questions I’ve just always been curious about the extra products in europe not offered here and if your customers would benefit from using products that aren’t available by the H&G line in the USA.
There are micro nutrients already within the House and Garden line, and the base nureients are formulated a little differently for the USA too. The only thing that I add to the complete H&G line is Great White or Orca. PK 13-14 is more similar to Shooting Powder or any high PK additive. We’re always trying to get other H&G products to the USA, but you wouldn’t believe the dance that we have to do to achieve that goal. Slowly they will all come. Peace!
Your amino treatment jumps sO much between veg an flower I’m a little concerned about burn and at $189 a pop that’s gonna be expensive. With 60 gallon res, I’m giving them 210 mills every watering.” Is it worth the investment?” is what I’m thinking. It might end up costing me an extra $1000+ a run. What do you recommend ? Thanks for your understanding
Amino Treatment is not a food, so it won’t burn your plants. It will, however, increase the uptake of nutrients by your plants, so if you aren’t carefull, you could add too much base nutrients and burn the plants. So, you’re telling me that your plants use all 60 gallons in the reservoir every time they water. Unless your operation is fairly large, its hard for me to believe that all 60 gallons get used with every watering. Maybe I’m missing something. Peace!
Just one more question, I promise! Thanks again for all your help as well, this forum is an excellent guide for your products!
I just recently switched to your products as I received 1L bottles of your complete line as a gift. But, as I am a smaller grower, I was wondering what the shelf life after opening was on some of your products with the beneficial bacterias?
I didn’t use that much (following the calculator) of the Algen Extract, Magic Green or Nitrogen Boost. Will they still be good for the next cycle in 3 months, or cycle after that before I have to get new ones? It looks like the Drip Clean will last awhile though, correct? How about the Amino Treament (Which is fantastic!!), as I have huge bottle of that!
No problem with your questions, that’s what we’re here for. The shelf life of H&G products is 3 years unopened, 1 year opened, and stored properly in a cool dark place. Peace!
Looking at the feed chart, it states how much PER WEEK.
If I feed 3 – 4 times a week, should I be dividing the amount by the times I water? or should I be adding the full amount once and only water the rest of the week?
What is suggested?
You will want to feed every time you water with House and Garden. So if the chart says 6ml/gallon on the base nutrients for the week, then you’ll mix your feed water with that amount every time. Peace!
Nutrient Burn
I’m starting week 4 and since observing signs of nutrient burn, (growing in Sunshine Mix #4, out of the bag) I reduced the base nutrient levels from 1/2 to 1/4 strength. I measured the EC of water coming out of the pots and found it high as 2.2 (worst case) so I kept watering with 1/4 strength until the EC got below 1.8. I got this EC value from your UK web site. I would suggest that you reassert EC values on your feeding chart and I am newly, very skeptical of some of the claims made of this forum about your products. Also when I printed out my nutrient calculator feeding schedule, it stated that Amino treatment be given till the 5th week of flowering and now I see that if I printed the same feeding schedule today, it would stop Amino treatment as soon as flowering starts. My question to you is, am I doing the right thing? Why is this happening and what effect will the additional use of Amino treatment have on the grow? I’m finding these inconsistencies in regards to information on this web site and the UK website and information that is not updated a bit troubling. Thanks J
If you’re not in the UK, please don’t follow that feed chart. Please follow the chart for the region you’re in. Sounds like you had some nutrients build up in the medium. You did the right thing to even it out. The nutrient calculator, unfortunately, has suffered some misprints reguarding the Amino Treatment and Shoting Powder, and we are fixing the problem. You can use Amino treatment up through the end of week 5 on an eight week plant. Don’t go above 3.8 ml/ gallon for Amino Treatment. Peace!
When using Shooting Powder, can I still top off the res? Also, when transitioning from 2.6 g/gal to 5.2 g/gal, can I simply add additional shooting powder until I’m at the level of 5.2 g/gal, or do you recommend starting with a fresh res at this point?
You can still top off the reservoir and add Shooting Powder accordingly. You don’t have change the reservoir when going to the higher dose, just top off and add accordingly. Peace!
Hi guys!
I am using:
-Soil A/B
-Drip-Clean
-Multi-Zen
-Top Booster
-Shooting Powder
2 questions.
1) Can you use fish emulsion and kelp with Soil A/B?
2) I noticed the ph spikes after additives. Should I wait the 5 or more hours until it lowers or will the soil “balance” it out.
I noticed the ph is perfect if I don’t adjust it after the base nuts. Can I just mix without adjusting ph with up/down?
I am a noob, so forgive my ignorance. In addition to the fish, I have been foliar spraying with soluble kelp (and neem, of course).
Some of my plants are fine but most started curling and yellowing fast into flower, a lil new growth browning on some. The results are not consistent with the entire crop.
Some are fine, some are stunted. It’s very strange.
Can’t tell if it’s burn or deficiency.
Made the same mistake as a fellow customer by only feeding once a week.
Thanks for your help.
Well, your Roots Organics 707 soil is full of stuff already so you need not add nutrients in the beginning. So if you’re adding nutrients too soon, you may be burning them. I wouldn’t add anything until you know that you have used what’s in there already. Keep in mind too, you may be having problems if you are foliar feeding to much. If you foliar feed too much, the plants will uptake nutrients from the leaves and the root system development will suffer. The yellowing and stunting you’re experiencing sounds like a nitrogen deficiency, but could be an overall deficiency since you said that you were only feeding once a week. If you like what you get by not adjusting PH after base nutrients, then go with that. All you can do is slowly try to figure it out. Just a side note, I have recieved more negetive then positive feedback regarding the soil you’re using. Peace!
I am using coco. also ro water. my well water is not on a softner. With my bluelab ph 7.3 ppm 150,0.3 ec,3cf. Would this water be ok? Reason is I am buying water now would like to use mine if its ok.
If you’re that far into the cycle, leaves will turn yellow because the plant is coming to the end of it’s life and the energy from the plant is directed to the fruits and flowers. Just take off the bad leaves. Peace!
I have been a religious zealot about using the entire H&G line up since around 2005, or 06, and I love it! I’ll never change. I have recently started using Amino Treatment in the earlier parts of my 8 week plants. Right up till I start using the Shooting Powder. I’ve been using airstones in the reservoirs since I switched to aeroponics about a year and a half ago. Right as soon as I started using the Amino Treatment product, I noticed an awful lot of bubbly scum on the surface of the nutrients. My question is… Is it alright to use air stones to oxygenate my reservoirs, or is this not such a good idea now that I use Amino Treatment?
Thanks for your quick response! And keep up the marvelous work guys! You rock in every way!
Veek Da Freak
Well, are you talking about a cloner machine, because that OK to use air stones. If you are talking about a cloner machine, do not use Amino Treatment in a cloner machine. I’ve never heard od an Aeroponic vegatative machine. Peace!
I currently use soil a and b, roots excelurator and great white for my nutes ( adding some more soon). I water roughly every 2-3 days my question is, is it ok if I store those nutes mixed for the week? So I don’t have to keep mixing multiple times a week. I had been using plain water in between feeds . I keep readin to feed every time. Thank you
Yes, you can mix your nutrients for the week, just check your PH before feeding if it’s been a couple days since you’ve mixed the batch. It is recommended to feed with every watering. Peace!
So i noticed on other comment you recommend no peroxide as it can kill H&G enzymes so what do you recommend to rid and prevent green mold on the hydroton ??
I’ve never seen green mold form on hydroton, but I have seen green algae form on hydroton from continuous drip feeding systems The hydroton needs to dry out a little. Peace!
On the nuts calculator I see that it says to add nitrogen booster & amino treatment but when you scroll down on your products list under additives it doesnt show them are they nessecary or not. And can you please tell me about a retailer for the items in florida.
Thank you for bringing that to our attention. Amino Treatment and Nitrogen Boost are not required, they are additives. The only Products that I would concider to be absolutely necessary are the base nutrients and Roots Excelurator. Everything else is an additive and is optional. However, using as many additives as you can afford will give you the best results in the end. Peace!
My plants are in dirt. I use 60 gallons every three days when i water. I am using 210 mills of amino treatment every watering. At $190 a bottle it’s going to add up. Should I use it every other time i water or use less to save money? Or should I spend the money because it will be worth it? Thanks.
I thought that you used 60 gallons for the week, not every time you water. The cost versus result question will have to be decided by you. You can read about how people really like the results, but again, you’ll have to figure that one out yourself. I think it’s worth it. Peace!
Was wondering what to do using a 40 gal. res aero system if my ppm’s in week 6 with are high (1600) while using your regular formula, or if that even matters. Thats what my ppms start out as when i empty and refill for that starting week. Also, what to do if i notice my plants are taking up more water than nutes. (water levels drop as ppms stay the same all the way thoughout each week. Thanks much!!
Your plants don’t seem to be eating, maybe because your adding too much base nutrients. Instead of doing a complete water change with the PPM so high, try just topping off with water, adjust your PH, and see if your plants start to eat more. Peace!
In one of your older nutrient tables (Soil) you recommended to use Root Excel in the last 3 weeks of flowering. In you new online nutrient calculator you do not recommend using Root Excel in the last 3 weeks. Why did this change?
Some changes like that were made because at that point in the cycle Roots Excelurator just isn’t needed unless you’re battling some kind of root issue, so it saves you some money on that expensive stuff. You can continue to use it all the way through flowering if you want to. Peace!
i am using ebb/flo bucket system, coco coir for planting in and house and garden a/b nutrients, how often should i water, i have been watering twice a day, should i let it dry out more, older leaves are yellowing, but they are still young
If the plants are looking healthy, then go with what you’re doing. If the plants are small enough, one feeding a day might be enough. How often you water will depend on how large your plants are, so you might have to water more as they get larger. In my experience, it’s better to have evenly spaced feeding intervals, however many times you feed. Peace!
I use roots organic soil, it says that there is enough nutes to last about a month. Should I wait to start feeding HG nutes or start as soon as I plant in the soil? If I start will there be nute burn? Or any other issues?
Thank you
I cant express enough how great house and garden is, especially this FAQ forum. You guys are quick to respond and very informative. Other brands should take some notes on your customer service!
Using a ebb n grow system w/hydroton as medium. I follow feed schedule and use the flakes. Was wodering if reusing hydroton is possible?? I have alredy and am noticing some root rott. i use all ads including roots ex. any answers suggestions would be great thanks.
Hydroton is very porous and will need to be rinsed very well before you reuse it. If you’re using fldod and drain trays, you might have an area where the water is pooling and not draining out properly, that can cause root rot if the roots are sitting in that water. If you have buckets, your roots might be sitting in some pooled water in the buckets. Root rot can also be caused by the water temperature being to high. If you get over 68F, you might be at risk. Peace!
There is a description on the feed chart that says “..Shooting Powder CAN help to increase yields up to 30%.” We don’t claim that it WILL increase 30$, but it can help to. Try it and see for yourself. Peace!
Hi, First thanks Rob for the great conversation we had on MLK day (I felt bad about calling him on his day off – but am extremely impressed with your level of support and dedication. I cut out the calmag entirely, and only use 50 ppm of Calplex (in RO) and my plants really straightened out. I currently use the entire coco line including the adds (nitro & ammino), with the exception of Algen. I’d like to ask if it’s ok or even necessary to use Bud Blood, or Open Sesame with your line. I read in an ealier post that it was ok to use chah-ching. Is this correct? Oh, I’m also a big fan of canna-boost which is organic. Is this also ok, or am I blowin unecessary cheeze on the product? On a last note, I currently use canna coco. You mentioned about H&G coco….anytime soon? Thanks again!
Thanks for the props. Rob is pretty knowledgable. I’m happy to hear that your problems have subsided. At this point, I think you’ll get the best results from the H&G line by itself without those other products. The H&G Coco should be available to the retail stores very soon if its not already. I just checked out the product, it is really good. It is PH buffered better then the cocos it was tested with. Peace!
Hi I’m new with using H&G so first I am using sunset promix 1. and using H&G A&B soil. Us root exel love that stuff.. now wondering can i use CNS17 Ripe Formula from botanicare and Hydroplex from botanicare? and can i use overdrive also? Oh was wondering what is the correct Ph i should have my after everything is mixed? Should I mix everything and let it sit if so how long? Thanks for your help..
You can use additves from other nutrient lines with H&G Soil A/B. You should adjust your PH to 6.3 after you add the base nutrients, then put in your additives. You can mix up your batch of water for the week if you want, just check the PH after the mix has been sitting for a few days. Peace!
I have been having ph flux lately. I wonder what you reccomend to use for my ph control. I currently use citric acid. Good? Great? Terrible? Please enlighten me. I reallyneed the help. I am in coco watering 9 small plants with 2.5 gallons/day, I get 80% or more of waste water back on the once a day feeding. I feed at 5.7 or 5.8. But it’s coming out at 7.0-7.5. I use r/o water. I flush weekly even though I know it isn’t nessessary. I don’t know what to do or what I am doing wrong. I use homade coco slabs with royal gold coco innoculated with myco maddness and sub culture-B. Also a trichoderma t-22 strain that I just innoculated with. Any help would be great. It got really bad last harvest and I had to start flushing at 5 weeks because they were so locked out due to ph coming out at 8.2!!! Horrifying. I can’t wait till week 5 this time, know what I mean? Thanks folks. I dig the amino treatment along with everything else. Peace.
The citric acid you’re using seems fine, but I don’t really know how aggressive it will work or if it will maintain very well like an actual PH down product. Your fluctuation is happening because the Royal Gold coco you’re using is very hard. Meaning that there isn’t calcium added to it to act as a buffer and stabilize the PH. That’s why the run off PH is so high, and your unnecessary flushing isn’t helping that either. That unnecessary flushing is taking out anything that might be in there to help you. I would recommend to add either a cal mag or straight calcium supplement to the RO water to 100-150PPM before you add your base nutrients, then adjust your PH. I would recommend to back off on any additives and only use base nutrients and whatever calcium additive that you choose until you get the problem is under control. Peace!
So should I not use the h&g supplements? Or the other stuff? And what would you reccomend for a good ph product? I have earth juice ph down and up. Citric acid and potassium bicarbonate. Thanks again. I am waiting for the h&g cocos to hit the shops around here, when will that be? I am in norcal. I hated the compaction of the canna and b’cuzz had fungus gnats from the start every time. I used canna last time and it was even worse. The one thing I can say for royal gold is it is perfectly clean of pests and drains well. But the calcium thing is a pain in the ass.
I don’t really remember what we were talking about with the supplements, I answer alot of questions. Please refresh my memory. Earth Juice is a good clean product, I use Mad Farmer’s Get Up and Get Down. The H&G Coco is available to the stores, they just have stock their shelves. It’s really good stuff, it was tested at 325PPM and buffered with calcium to help stabilize your PH levels. Peace!
Hi there, just a couple of questions, but first fantastic products!! Switched from AN and others a few years ago and will never go back!!
I was wondering if you know if nitrogen boost will be made available to the uk market? Do you happen to know anything about the cell enhancer product as well?
Also why the difference between nutrient calendars for various countries?, ie between uk, us, ca and au website? are the products made specifically for the various regions? if so is it all products or just the base nutrients? Also whats the main differences between the us and uk market. Just really curious about it as know other manufactures just make one for the world.
One more question could you please tell me the mixing rate for shooting powder in grams and liters?
Must say out of all the H&G website’s the us is the best, love the faq’s and other info you provide. Thx
I don’t know about the UK markets and the avaiulability of House and Garden products in the UK. You’ll have to contact them for that information. I know that the base nutrient formulas for the USA are different, but I don’t know exactly how they are different. The math for Shooting Powder works out to be 0.676 grams/liter for the lower dose and 1.352 grams/liter for the higher dose. Thanks for the kudos about our website. Peace!
The reason for the drop in base nutrients for the last 3 weeks of flowering is because when you add Shooting Powder, you can burn your plants if the base nutrients levels are too high. Peace!
My question is when filling my res should I do it a day in advance to adding nutes? I’ve heard it helps get rid of some chlorine in the water..and should i fill up with cold water then heat it or is it ok to warm the water a lil by turning on the hot water??? Thanks
You can let the chlorine crap disipate for 24 hours, that always helps but isn’t required. It’s OK to ease a little warm water in the reservoir, just be careful not let the temperature very high. Water temperature over 70F, you’re risking root rot. Peace!
I am using H and G Coco on a blended Coco mix (40% coco) in a top feed Drip set up. .
I have several Questions.
1- I would like to Flush the final 5 days of the cycle. If I have an 8 week Cycle on Flowering, Do I use 7 weeks on your calculator and then Flush Week 8?
Also I have been using a recycled top feed Drip on the coco medium, My standard practice has been to mix Coco A- B nutes (Standard Ratio not aggressive) at the beginning of the week, then just adding RO – Ph’ed water as needed during the week. I am using to the letter your recommendations from the calculator, but have added HygroZyme and Cal Mag Plus,( Was also using Pro Tec Silica until you came out with Amino Treatment). (Nute solution= Ph = 5.8-6.0, and is 68 degree F) I have noticed that the PPM is dropping from around 1200 to 500 by weeks end. I have noticed some Mag deficiency which is not that huge, but seems to be persistent through the life cycle. I am nervous about adding more nutrients mid week due to concerns for a buildup of some macro or micro nutes.
2- My question is, should I add nutes mid week, or would I be better off switching to a non recirculating Drain to waste?
I would like to maximize nutrients throughout the entire cycle of course but am concerned that the drain to waste would be too costly/wasteful. I could reduce my run off by reducing my irrigation cycles, but I am concerned about nutrient build up in the medium if I minimize the run off during each irrigation cycle.
2a) How much run off should I have per cycle if I drain to waste. Or can I get by with NO Run Off each irrigation cycle.
2b) How many gallons of water per gallon of soil shall I have in the reservoir (as a rule of thumb)
Do you recommend anything else. Let me know. Thanks.
Go through week eight as the chart says, then flush after that. You only need to flush for 3 days because there is no salt to flush out, only the nutrients. You can flush for 5 days if you want to, but if you go more then that, you’ll be flushing out good flavors and such. The Cocos A/B formula is meant to be used in a drain to waste system. It’s not meant to be recirculated at all. I don’t recommend using Hygrozyme with House and Garden. It causes major PH fluctuations. Your PPMs going down like that is a good thing, it means your plants are eating. Topping off with water mid week seems to be working for you, so go with that. Since you are recirculating the feed water, what looks like a deficiency may be a reaction to recirculating the feed water and may not be a deficiency at all. You should reduce your run off as much as you can. As far as how much water you need on hand to water, that’s for you to figure out. Peace!
hey guys first off thanks for the 8th wonder of the world. these products are by far more superior to anything ive ever tested. couple quick questions. I believe i may have read somewhere that you guys were recommending the aqua line for use with promix? why? and what about coco during flowering(due to higher p & k)? I would appreciate any feed back on which would work the best with strictly using promix, no additional amendments, and your full line of additives.
joel
We recommend using Aqua Flakes with Pro Miz BX because it is a soilless medium. Aqua Flakes is stronger then Soil A/B so you use less nutrients and the end product is better too. Pro Mix BX is peat based. You can use Soil A/B if you want to and see for yourself. Peace!
Ok, I am feeding 9 plants in homemade coco slabs 2.5 gallons of water per day. I get about 2 1/4 gallons of drain water in return. My question is can I re-feed the coco nutes one time before throwing it out? I would add water to bring it up to the 2.5 gallon mark and ph to 5.7 before feeding. Let me know what you think. Thanks.
It sounds like you are watering with too much water and have too much run off. With run off like that, you might be flushing more then feeding. You don’t want to reuse the run off water at all with Cocos A/B. Your PH level is fine. Try to water with as little run off as possible so the plants can feed. Peace!
Just wanted to say im using your whole H&G line except/ amino treatment , nitro boost and algen extract. and all i can say is wow this stuff is awesome! But i have one question. should i start the flower feeding scedule the day im flick the lights back to 12/12 hours or the day i see the plant showing its sex?
I use aqua flakes, bud xl, drip clean, and top booster (as well as some other brand additives also) and never empty my reservoir except for between cycles. Is it ok to leave the top booster in there (I add if for one week, four weeks before finish)? I.E. I only top off the reservoir every week, so there is likely some unused top booster left in there. Or do I HAVE to get the remaining top booster out by changing the full reservoir?
First off I would like to say that I have been using your products for just 9 weeks now, and couldn’t be happier with the switch from my previous nutrient line! I do have one question as I approach the later stages of flowering:
I have not seen a flushing agent in your line of products, so… How would you suggest flushing my plants to free them of any potential nutrient/chemical taste? What product, what strength, and how long?
The House and Garden nutrient line is so clean and doesn’t get the salt build up that other lines get, so you only have to flush for 3 days with PH proper water. Use fresh PH proper water everyday that you flush and that will do just fine. There is no leaching agent required because there is no salt to leach out. Peace!
Can the coco A & B bases be used by themselves when growing in coco? I understand they are formulated to be used with the entire nutrient line, but the guaranteed analysis doesn’t specify all the nutrients it contains. Does it contain at least a majority of the essential nutrients plants need to grow in a balanced ratio?
The House and Garden base nutrients are formulated to use on their own with no additives. They contain all of the necessary micro and macro nutrients needed to complete a full run. The additives are just that. You will get optimal results if you were to use the additives, but they are not all required. The only additive that I would say is going to benefit you the most would be Roots Excelurator. I have done a couple runs over the years with only base nutrients and finished with a fine product. Peace!
Couple questions about the Magic Green. I know it’s a foliar spray, so instead of going by the nutrient calculator’s recommendation for my reservoir size, I mix it by how much water is going into the sprayer, right? for example 1.6ml to 1.2L of water. also, what’s the shelf life once mixed, should I throw out the unused portion immediately, or can I save for the next application? And is it a 1-2x/week spray, or more/less. I’ve been told to apply as soon as lights go off, true? Thanks in advance guys, your products have been highly recommended to me, and so far I’m impressed.
You are correct, mix according to how much water you are putting in the spray bottle. Use Magic Green within 6 hours of mixing, so throw out what you don’t use right away so you don’t accidentally use it later. You want to apply Magic Green every other week and only spray when the lights are off. It doesn’t have to be right when they go off, but soon after that. Peace!
thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. just the one application every other week then, or daily every other week? sorry I wasn’t clear with my original question. thanks again.
Ive been using ur line for awhile now. I was wondering what is the importance of mixing part a and then letting it sit for 15 mins. If i mix my 55 gallon drum with a cement mixer and a drill. Could i make sure its well mix and add B right after?
The thing you want to avoid is the concentrated forms of parts A and B hitting each other. This will cause a nutrient lockout. I can’t really recommend for you to do something other then what the factory recommends. Peace!
hi guys by the way i love your nutrients. Any who i was wondering what trace elements you recommend in the states as a substitute for yours which is not sold here yet? and i have been growing in soil in my green house can i use coco instead this year and water by hand still? Thanks a lot i love house and garden nutes
I don’t really need to use stuff much, but you can go online and check it out. The House and Garden Cocos A/B is formulated to be used in a drain to waste system, so you should be fine. Peace!
I’ve been thinking about experimenting with a new nutrient line, and I’ve been wanting to try something that’s coco-specific. I’ve been reading great thigns about H&G, and I’m definitely interested. If I were to wanting to start with H&G, but keep it as simple as possible, what additives would you recommend starting with? I was thinking I could probably get away with just the base nutes, roots excelurator and the bloom booster. But I was curious for some input from either H&G staff or satisfied customers. Thanks in advance for the advice!
You don’t need to store the nutrients in the fridge. As long as they are not exposed to extreme temperatures, you shouyld be fine. Proper storage is in a cool dark place, not a cold dark fridge. Spray Magic Green on the tops mainly, you don’t have to get all up in there and saturate the plant. Peace!
hi guys just a quick question. im about to clone im gonna use a basic starter dome with grow plugs and clones
what do you recommend i use thanks for your your buy house and garden
Can Amino Treatment be used as a foliar spray when mixed at 0.2-1ml per litre have come across this on another web site but there is no mention of this on yours
Let’s chat about seedlings. Just popped a pack and wish to know how much to feed them. Perhaps H&G can offer some assistance/advice. I will assume that to begin with, I simply water with RO water PH 5.8, then as they mature over a few days (7 or so) then perhaps do a first feeding by mixing 1.5ml aqua A/B plus .5ml Roots Excellurator in 1 gallon…obviously I wouldnt feed the seedlings the whole gallon, It just seems easier to do measuring this way..and dump the rest out. I just want to make sure I get a good light feeding at first…don’t want to burn or stress the babies. Is this sound logic or can you offer another solution? Thanks guys.
You’re going to have to get on some online forums for seed popping information. Once the seeds have popped and they are in the grow mudium, you can feed them with 2.5ml/gallon of A and B and 1ml/gallon Roots Excelurator. That will get you going. Peace!
Hi, I currently am using the complete line(minus Amino Treatment) and have a gal of Pro-tekt Silica sitting around I was debating using but was worried about the NPK value 0-0-3. I top feed a 70 coco/ 30 perlite mix and use Coco A&B. The reason I am worried is because of the high amount of Potassium Coco A&B already contains. I believe together they contain 5.4-3.4-9.4(which is very high K IMO for Coco). Since using Coco A&B in Coco I have been getting Mag deficiencies which I believe can be caused by excessive Potassium. Should I just not use it like my gut tells me?
Good eye. Potassium toxicity can slow the uptake of magnesium and show a defficiency. You will need to flush with PH proper water for probably 2 waterings, then do a fresh batch of nutrients and go from there. You probably don’t want to use the silica. Peace!
hey how is it going? first off i want to say i have been using you line for about seven years now and couldnt be happier. one thing though i have recently just started using your Amino treatment and noticing the water gets pretty funky is that normal? it not affecting anything that i see but there is all types of stuff that tends to build up. i just want to make sure it isnt an issue.
how come you erased my comment about the differance btween u.k c.a a.ua,u.s nutrients and why would they be different when water around the world is not that differant ,also aproper flush for 3 gal. of soil or 5 gal. of soil would be 3 times the amount of water to soil
Each region’s representatives have some say in what their charts say. All I can tell you is to follow the chart for the area you are in. I feel that the feedback that we have obtained over the years works for this country the best. If you feel that you want to follow another regions chart, then that is your decision to make, but for the record, I do not recommend that you do that. I didn’t answer your last comment because you were sounding very negative and we don’t post negative comments like that. For flushing, it is difficult to really pin point an exact ratio of water to soil. I recommend to flush aggresively and let the water run through pretty well and check the PPM of the run off. You can do this for up to 5 days if you want, the recommendation is for 2-3 days if you have only used H&G, anything more then that you will probably be losing flavor. When the PPM gets really low, you are good. Peace!
I just bought some drip clean, I’m about 3 weeks and 5 weeks into flowering(2 grows) is it safe to add drip clean this late and will there be a significant difference?
Thank you
The thing that you have to worry about is the Drip Clean releasing the salts or any nutrient build up all at once when you start using it this late, that can cause lockout and burning. You might want to flush before you start using it. Peace!
I flushed one plant 5 weeks into flowering due to a P deficiency and added one drop of drip clean to one gal of distilled watered with 1/2 strength nutrients will this be ok? I also watered the other plant with normal strength nutrients, did not flush and added 1 drop of dc.
Another quick question, would distilled or tap water be better with HG nutes?
I love your products so far this is my first grow with them and they are working wonderful. I am in week 3 and about to add Top Booster and the following week the shooting powder. I was wondering how much shooting powder to use from the packet if only mixing up on a per gallon basis? I wondered about a teaspoon but don’t know if that is even too much. I am browsing the site looking for the answer as well.
Hi, I hvae a question for you , i run a RDWC system, however i run a perpetual grow. So I have plants at varing ages, at all times, in the flowering system, that leaves me the question, how or should i use the usual method to apply the nutrients, im confused becase if bud excel is added in the 5wk , then what about the plants that are in week 2 of the flowering cycle. they all get the same nutrients and water..
Now the veg room is on a cycle of its own, and i have no questions there..
But im confused on what to do with the varied ages in the flower room.
I do a water change about every 3-4 weeks. You can top off you reservoir for the new week and just add nutrients according to the amount of fresh water you added. Your reservoir doesn’t need to always be full. If you can get through the week without topping off, then it’s preferred to do that way. Then you can top off at the start of the new week and add your nutrients accordingly. Peace!
Just to let you know, most of the sugars and carbs that are in a product like Bud Candy never get used by the plants. Bud Factor X is fine to use if you have been experiencing magnesium deficiencies, but if you haven’t, then it probably isn’t necesary. Use of Bud Candy is a personal choice at this point. Some use it and like it, and some have used it and will never use it again. Peace!

Drip clean is used all the way up to the second week of flowering according to your charts. When you read about the product it states to use it during veg all the way to flowering to the end. Which is it? I have never used it before would like to intro it into the last three weeks of flowering with shooting powder is it ok to use (safe)?
Regards!!
Hey Pete,
Drip clean should be used with every nutrient feeding with any nutrient. Slowly introduce it to feed schedule a drop at a time till 0.4 ml per gal is reached. Drip Clean is used in every stage of the plants life and is safe.
What is the shelf-life of your products?
Hey Michael,
We garantee 1 year
Peace!

Thank You! http://www.house-garden.us
I am currently using you products for the first time.
I am running the 8 week flowering with Aqua A & B.
My question is;
Can I add Botanicare Cal Mag to this nutrient plan?
Can I add Botanicare Sweet Grape to this nutrient plan even though I am using your Bud XL?
Can I add a cup of sugar water (1tbs sugar per gallon water) directly to pot after watering with nutrient solution?
Some people have told me to substitute your shooting powder with Mad Farmer Mother of all bloom? On the Mad Farmer it says to reduce the nutrients if using their product. What would you recommend? And if I use the Mad Farmer what would be the correct ml of your nutrients?
Thanks,
Allan
Hey Allen,
Yes! you can add Botanicare Cal Mag and Sweet.
Thanks for checking out House-Garden.us! Rob
Hello,
First off i love your nutrients, they are great for first time growers who want great fruits. i started using the soil A/B two years ago when a buddy turned me on to it.
Thanks
Tyler
Hi Tyler,
Algae is a pain isn’t it!!
Hey Dave,
We have a UK web site which should be your best bet. http://www.ukhouseandgarden.co.uk
Hope this helps and thanks for checking out http://www.house-garden.us!
Happy Growing
Yes, H&G works with hard water. Is it city water? Maybe a chlorine filter would help if that is the case.
Hello all,
My name is Zach, the owner of The Healthy Harvest Hydroponic & Garden Supply based out of Pembroke Pines, FL. I am currently a retailer of your products through HW. hello, i reciently recieved a sample box of your nutrients and the sample bottles do not have the npk numbers on them. and i have searched for the npks but cant find them anywhere can you provide me with the npk numbers? i have bud xl, top booster, shooting powder, and mad farmer.
I would recommend Aqua Flakes.
Try adding Drip Clean at the beginning of your next cycle.
Hello Poinzy,
We do like to give out samples for people to try. We are running short at the moment because we are in the middle of the trade show season. We are going to be in Los Angeles this weekend for a trade show there. Come visit us at our booth and we try to help you out. Thanks for your interest in our products.
Hello,
I want to use your productd for an aeroponic application what feed schedule should I use?
Also what schedule for a DWC system?
Thanks
Aqua Flakes would be the base nutrient and feed chart you would want to use for both styles.
-L.T.-
Hey L.T.
Peace Out and Happy Growing! Rob
Does this mean that one should avoid using RO water when using H+G nutes?
Hi Daniel,
That comment was just to explain that it is not required to use RO water with H&G. You can use RO water if you want to. Peace!
Alan
Hey I just wanted to say I had an amazing time in L.A. Thank you guys for helping to make the whole experience very memorable for us here. Your booth was both entertaining and informative and we look forward to attending next years expos in California.
See you again soon!

Would you tell me how long magic green lasts in a 1 gallon container also how long does the flowering formula last when mixed in a 5 gallon container?,Thanks
What concentration of nutrients do you recommend for mother plants?
Hey Janet,
It depends on how big they are and how aggressive they feed! Smaller plants seem to like 400 to 600 ppm, While bigger plants seem to like 600 to a 1000ppm. These are just suggestions due to i have know idea how healthy your environment or plants are.
Peace! Rob
What temperature should I keep my nutrients at? Can I refrigerate them at around 45-50 degrees Fahrenheit?
Thanks!
Just avoid freezing them.
Thank you
Hey Chris,
We apologize for the inconvenience but our H&G staff have been very busy keeping up with demands and events.
Happy Growing! Rob
Thanks!!
I just bought some of your shooting powder and I am am wondering how much of it to add to a 5 gallon reservoir? Can you tell me how much of this I need to use in ML or teaspoons instead of a weight measurement like grams?
Hey John,
We suggest 5/8 teaspoon or 2.75ml per gallon.
Happy Growing! Rob
Hi,
I recently grabbed your line up at a local store after hearing about amazing results.
ANy advice?
Thanks
Hey John,
We suggest that if you have more then 30% cocos in your medium, You should use the Cocos A/B.
Peace Out! Rob
I am about to use your shooting powder. Everything is looking perfect, I am talking a 10 here buddy. How much should I lower my base nutrient levels when adding shooting powder?
Thanks, Adam
Hey Adam,
700ppm or 1.2 ec or 7.5ml per gal. is suggested!
Happy Growing! Rob
How long should I flush my plants, I am using hydro with H&G A and B nuts. Thanks
Hey Brad,
2-3 days with healthy plants, a week if your concerned about how strong your nutrients were and how healthy your plants were.
House and Garden never has toxic levels of salt build up which have to be flushed for 2 weeks.
Peace Out! Rob
I just bought some of your Bio 1-Component Soil. How much water do I mix with the suggested feeding amount?
Hey Josh,
Measurements are ML per Gallon.
Happy Growing! Rob
Will it hurt to use an airstone while using your Aqua Flakes in a DWC setup?
Hey Tim,
NO!!!!!!!! Airstones will not hurt House and Garden nutrients in a DWC.
Peace! Rob
Happy Growing! Rob
Peace Out! Rob
The Bio 1 Componet Soil base suggests adding calcium during the flowering stage. How much should I add per gallon of water? Thanks for the feedback!
Josh
Hey Josh,
The suggested amount buy the manufacturer of the product you purchased.
Peace Out! Rob
Hello ,
I am about to change over to H&G after many years of using pura vida, I grow in happy frog with added perlite. I hand water drain to waste. I am not quite clear on which products of yours to use, your advice would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Mike
Yo H&G whats the shelf like of your products, i’ve had a couple 10L jugs sitting around and wonder if they are still good. How would i go about checking and ensuring that it is still good?
stc
can i use a solution of 50%pharmaceutical grade peroxide with H&G or will that remove beneficial bacteria and or organics if your product is organic?
Currently using: aqua Flakes A&B with additives of H&G
Hey Evan,
I would not use peroxide with H&G unless rinsing system! In some cases Peroxide can be used but I would remove Algen, Roots Excelorator and Amino Treatment.
Happy Growing! Rob
can i use the Roots Excelurator to soak my growing mediums before taking cutings to help faster root development wile in this very early stage.
thank you
Hey Leigh,
Using Roots Excelurator while soaking cubes is a very good idea. This will help create healthier cuttings or seeds while forming roots.
Happy Gardening! Rob
Hello,
A couple of questions?
With a feed to waste system after PH adjusting the first time should I go back and adjust again? And if so how often?
I left my coco a/b in the car and it got to 9 degrees fahrenheit and the nut’s partially froze. Are they no longer any good to use?
Do you suggest to flush between feedings? Between veg and flower? Anytime before the final?
Thanks!
Hey Sven,
(1) It is always good to moniter your ph at all times.
(2) So your cocos froze! Just stick it in warm water till the crystals dissolve, your good to go.
(3) The only time you should flush is if the plants are over fed or your garden is finished. Drip clean keeps the salts dissolved so there’s no need to flush.
Happy Growing! Rob
Hi Aaron,
A reservoir change every 4 weeks is fine for a RDWC system. Peace!
Alan
Hi, I was wondering cany you use dutch master Zone with roots escellator. please let me know because the roots excellator is expansive but well worth it. we use zone to kill any unwanted bacteria in the res.
Your nutes rock man! I love everything about them. Keep up the good work over there!
Hi Guys
I made the switch from GH to your products 3 cycles ago. All I can say is WOW. Listen to me, if you aren’t using H&G because of the cost, believe me you’ll more than make it for it in your fruit weight, taste, smell and looks.
I do have one question: I’m currently using ebb/flo and was told that your products can’t be used in RCDWC (re-circulating deep water culture). Can you advise?
Thanks.
Hi Steve,
I am happy to hear that you are loving House and Garden so much. Regarding your question, House and Garden products are great to use in RDWC systems. In fact, House and Garden products do better than any other nutrient line on the market in RDWC systems. Happy gardening!
Alan
I am very impressed with what I have come up with so far out of using the HG line. I am happy to have found the best right out of the gate, as this will be my first attempt… blossoming into a success right now! Thank you all, and long live House and Garden!!!!
Alan,
Thanks for the quick responses to my questions of the last few months.
Thanks again,
Art
Mike
Hi Mike,
The recommended method for the 3 day pre-harvest flush is to flush aggressively with PH proper water. Be sure to start with fresh PH proper water for each of the 3 days. Peace!
Alan
Hi, i have been using your products for years and am awaiting amino treatment as i type this. I know you guys recommend great white because house and garden doesnt have a similar product available in the usa. I was just wondering if there is any other products you would recommend running with the complete H&G line?
Hi Kevin,
Honestly speaking, Great White or Orca (not together of course) are truely the only things that I add to the House and Garden line up. It’s that good. Happy gardening!
Alan
Since i give nutrients multiple times a week is there any nutrients that shouldnt be used more than once. The only one i use for only one watering is top booster is that the correct use of the H&G line? The only real nutrient im not sure about is shooting powder but i have given it to my plants multiple times every week for the last 33 weeks with great success. I just want to make sure it isnt leaving a salt buildup that cant be removed by a flush that i do for the last couple days. Alao another quick question now i brought up flushing. How often and how much water should i use during a 2-3 day flush
Hi Jay,
The correct use for House and Garden is to feed every time you water, so you are following the feed chart correctly. Peace!
Alan
hi im using ebb n flo 1.8 ec ph 5.8-60 2 wks into flower using aqua nuts n root excel+ hydrogene peroxide once a week. im gonna be using bud xl and ur pk 13/14 everything is looking great. My q is is,is it ok to use peroxide and can i use my airstone ?i keep getting different answers everywhere thanks paul
Hi Paul,
You definitely don’t want to be using hydrogen peroxide with House and Garden, especially when you’re using Roots Excelurator. The hydrogen peroxide will kill all the beneficials in the Roots Excelurator. Go ahead and use air stones, but make sure that they aren’t bubbling too much because you can lose nutrients that way. Peace!
Alan
HI just to @sk if there is any problem with me using your aqua flakes, for flowering in the middle of the second week now, and using BAC bloom stim. I plan to stick with the bac bloom stim, hold the ec to bout 1.2- 1.4 with aqua flakes. I d like to finish with shooting powder which i hve aswell. Ne conflictions with me using bac bloom stim ?
thnks.
Hi dogst@r,
BAC Bloom Stimulator should be fine to use with Aqua Flakes and Shooting Powder, just don’t add any enzymes to the mix. Peace!
Alan
I am using the aquaflakes a/b line and am trying to figure out how to fed a mother plant. Can anyone answer this.
Hi Jared,
Depending on how large the mother plant is will help determine how much to feed her. Assuming that the plant is at least 2 feet tall, I would start with 5.5ml/gallon and go from there. You probably won’t need more than 8ml/gallon to maintain, again depending on how big the plant is. Peace!
Alan
I have cocos a&b and was wondering if I can use that in soil. I bought the wrong one and can not return.
Thank you.
Hi Jim,
I wouldn’t recommend using the Cocos formula in soil. Good luck.
Alan
Hi, I am new to your line, but so far I am AMAZED! I am just about to start to flower, and I am concerned with how much I should feed. I have very healthy plants, with a very nice root base. I am growing in cocos, how much should I be feeding them daily, each plant is in a 5 gal bucket. I was thinking for all 6 plants using 2-3 total gallons daily. Does a half gallon per plant sound right? It will be broken down into 6 separate feedings throughout the day.
Hi James,
I can’t really tell you how much water to use, only your plants can tell you that. I can tell you to definitely feed every time you water, and to be careful not to over water. It’s very easy to overwater with a coco medium because the coco holds moisture very well. Peace!
Alan
I am curious about how to use House and Garden products in a self contained DWC set up, ie. Bubble Buckets. Do I just follow the regular schedule or is there something different for this type of setup?
Thank you.
Hi Mike,
To start off with, I would recommend going with half strength on the base nutrients and additives. Those systems are very efficient and don’t require the full dose. Monitor your PPMs and see how much your plants are eating and then go up from there. Peace!
Alan
Is there something wrong with the Bud XL measurements in the nutrient calculator? The amount is in gms regardless if you choose metric or US measure.
Hi Linda,
Yes, there is something wrong. We are fixing the problem.
Alan
You feed schedule it’s right so many confused. You guys mix gr whit ml and the amounts on bud xl it’s no right do you guys check for as pls.
Hi Richard,
We are fixing the Nutrient Calculator. Sorry for the inconvenience. Peace!
Alan
Hey H&G,
I’m currently employed at Green Joint Ventures hydroponic store in Salinas, California, where we sell your products. A customer was worried about buying our shooting powder because they were worried about how it had clumped/been compressed (probably during shipping or from just being stacked on each other). They are definitely stored in a cool dry area, and the packages are not open. Should we or our dedicated customers be worried about this compaction?
Thank you,
Thomas @ GJV
Also, I notice in a previous post you recommend a customer to use half strength in a DWC set up. Would you recommend the same for an NFT (nutrient film technique) system when using H&G?
Thanks again,
Thomas, GJV
Hi Thomas,
I would recommend starting your nutrients at half and go from there. I haven’t run an NFT system myself, but there are some similarities to a DWC system. Just be sure to watch carefully and don’t starve them too much. Peace!
Alan
Hi Thomas,
There’s no reason for concern with the Shooting Powder. It will tend to get compressed from shipping and what not. I try to break it up in the package before adding it to the feed water or you can add the package to a small bucket of water to make sure it dissolves completely, then add it to your reservoir or feed batch. Peace!
Alan
Can I use Bio-1 Component with Vital Earth’s Manna Mix? It’s a coconut based soil and I know Bio-1 is designed for soil.
Hi Mark,
I wouldn’t recommend the Bio 1 Component for that mix. I would recommend the Cocos A/B. Peace!
Alan
Hi,
I was wondering if chlorine or chloramine have an effect of the efficacy of roots excelurator? I have used r.e for one grow and seemed to have massive massive root systems, twice the size as without r.e. i am using unfiltered tap water from san francisco, and was recently told the chlorine would cancel out the r.e completely? is this true?
Hi John,
The chloramine/chlorine found in drinking water won’t affect the Roots Excelurator, at least it’s never been a problem for me. You can let the chloramine/chlorine dssapate from the water if you would like. I think that a 100 gallon reservoir would take about 24 hours or so. However, large amounts of chlorine or hydrogen peroxide will affect Roots Excelurator negatively. Peace!
Alan
Thanks
Hi Noah,
We do recommend using Aqua flakes with Sunshine #4, but you can use Soil A/B also. Peace!
Alan
quick question… shooting powder used to be 2.6 grams per gal. now the calculator is stating 6.76grams/gal for week 1 and 13.52 grams/gal for the following weeks. wont that cause serious burn at that rate. why did it exceed double the normal rate?
Hi Jojo,
Shooting Powder is still 2.6 grams per gallon. That was a misprint. Peace!
Alan
Thank you
Hi Robert,
Your PH window is 5.8 to 6.3. So 6.5 will be a little high and may be contributing to the yellowing. Remember too, the “normal” and “aggressive” amounts on the feed chart create a window for you to work with regarding your base nutrients. Peace!
Alan
Hello,
first of all I would like to thank you guys for putting out such a superior line. My question is what would you recommend as a micro nutrient if I cant get a hold of your Trace Mix?.. Also what is the N-P-K on the Trace Mix? Thanks again
-Timmy
Hi Timmy,
I would recommend Great White. Peace!
Alan
Hi, after looking at the UK site i noticed there are plenty of products not available in the states. I was recommended great white for that reason but was wondering if you guys had a suggestion for a good trace elements nute that would be comparable to trace mix. Also if you guys have any other suggestions of different nutrients to add to the complete H&G line please let me know. Thanks again for always being fast to answer my questions. Also if flowers start to show by the end of week two am i supposed to start budxl immediately and stop using multi zyme
Hi Kevin,
Great White should be fine. Please follow the chart, DO NOT add Bud XL until instructed by the chart. The House and Garden scientists have been doing this for three generations in Holland, so they really know what they’re talking about. Peace!
Alan
i just brought Hydro A & B grow & flowering for chili.
i got 20 ltr water tank, how much should i put A & B
Thanks
Hi Gemunu,
You should have gotten a feed chart from where you purchased the nutrients. If not, you can download one from our website. Peace!
Alan
If I am using a top feed drain to waste system with royal gold basement mix (mostly coco) as my medium what base nutrient do you recommend? And If I were to go organic what products do you recommend to use with the bio 1 comp for this setup?
Hi Dante,
I would recommend the Cocos A/B for that setup not the Bio 1 Component. Peace!
Alan
Hi I noticed Alegen Extract in your nutriant line reads to only use in vegatative in the US. I also noticed it contains macro nutriants that is needed for feeding soilless mediums such as peat moss. Should I use other brand nutriants for macros as I am new and slowly shifting to HG? I currently use aqua flakes for my base and am wondering if that will do the trick for flowering feeding my garden macros. Maybe AE you would work occasionally during flowering maybe?? How does that work?
Hi Mr. Anderson,
Algen Extract is made from seaweed and used as a growth stimulator as well as macro nutrients. It’s only used in the veg state because once the flowering stage has begun, there’s no need to stimulate growth upwards. Multizen should be fine for you to use in your flowering cycle. Peace!
Alan
what will happen to my plants if i use coco a and b with soil
Hi Scott,
It’s hard to say, these formulas are geared for the exact medium in which they are intended. Peace!
Alan
Sorry for all the questions. I was wondering if a magnetic pump will affect the nutrients?
Hi JB,
Sometimes magnetic pumps can pull out the iron in the nutrients, but it shouldn’t affect House and Garden because of the type of iron that we use. Peace!
Alan
Thank you for the great products. Been using soil a/b for few years now with great results. Just got a growonix r/o system. Do I need to add cal mag to the filtered water every time i feed, even if I’m using all of your recommended products. I also use great white mychorizae once a week during 3 weeks veg will that affect your nutrient line. What should I be aware of when using r/o water?
Thanks
Hi Keith,
For RO water some people add cal-mag back into the water to 150ppm before adding the base nutrients, every time you feed. However, I know people that don’t add anything to their RO water, just House and Garden. Keep using the Great White, it will be fine. Peace!
Alan
hi im intrested in trying out the HG line up but do i have to use RO water for DWC? or is it just for coco.. i am doing DWC single bucket system.
Hi Naz,
You don’t have to use RO water with House and Garden. People use it beacuse of the water they get out of the tap (not good enough for them) or it’s their personal preference. Peace!
Alan
Good afternoon, I purchased this product and had a doubt about the bactoforce, and was using this product if I can plant directly on substrates that have been recently harvested plants, thanks and greetings.
Hi Richar,
I’m in the USA and we don’t have the Bactoforce here, so I’m not familiar with that product. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.
Alan
hi i will be doing an 8 week flowering cycle and thers a few questions i hope you can help me with.
Hi David,
You’ll want to apply Top Booster in the final 3-4 days of week 5, every time you water. Peace!
Alan
when flushing do i need to use drip clean to rinse, or exactly what? i am in water ebb and flow.
Hi Mel,
All you need to flush with is PH proper water. Use fresh PH proper water every day that you flush. Peace!
Alan
I’ve used H&G for a while and I started fighting root rot ever since I swtched from muitzime to muitzen is there a difference that all of us as customers need to know or add to our list now
Hi Josh,
Root rot is mainly caused by the water temperature being too high. Your temperature window for your water is 62-68 F. The Multizyme and Multizen are the same product, the name had to be changed to protect the innocent. Peace!
Alan
Hello, can you tell me if House & Garden nutrients are safe to use for edible vegetable plants? (lettuce, tomatoes, beans, etc.)
thanks and kind regards,
-dave
Hi Dave,
House and Garden is completely safe to use on your edibles. Our nutrients are made from food grade synthetics. Peace!
Alan
Couldn’t help but noticed you upgraded the nute chart with ‘amino treatment’ and ‘ nitrogen boost’. Which brand do u recommend or are you guys gonna be selling it?
Hi John,
The Amino Treatment and Nitrogen Boost products are now available to the retail stores. Peace!
Alan
Hi Peter,
The dose for Algen Extract is 1-2ml/gallon, not per liter. Peace!
Alan
Hello Alan,
Thanks muchly for your kind response and sound advice.
Hi Lou,
For Sunshine MIx #4, I would recommend the Aqua Flakes as your base nutrient. House and Garden is a cleaner nutrient by far and is very user friendly for beginners. I hope you make the switch. Peace!
Alan
Just wondering about PH levels on the products. I’m assuming they vary, but I’m not seeing anything on the website.
Hi Robert,
The PH window for hydro or coco is 5.8-6.5 and the window for soil is 6.3-7.0. That information is found on the feed charts. Peace!
Alan
Hi Ben,
As long as you aren’t recirculating the Cocos nutrients, you will be fine. The Cocos formula is designed for a drain to waste system only. Be sure to use Drip Clean to keep your drip lines clean, and follow the mixing instructions on the feed chart. Peace!
Alan
is any of the H&G line organic?
Hi Hoopajoop,
The Bio 1 Component is organic. Peace!
Alan
hi H+G,i need your help/advise.i use coco medium and i am hand feeding them,i am currently in the top booster phase but have accidently put almost double the amount instead of the 60 ml top booster in my 40ltr nutrient tank.will putting that much more have a adverse effect on my flower’s?and if so what should i do.thanks for any help.
Hi Souljahman,
I would recommend to change that water and start over. You might burn your plants with that much Top Booster. If you’ve already watered with that batch, a quick flush would be a good thing to do also. Peace!
Alan
Hi,
Really helpfull info in these threads, thank you!
Thanks! Can’t wait to see h
Hi Oliver,
You can stop using Superthrive all together, it’s just not needed. Peace!
Alan
Hi there, I would like to know the differences in the nutrient profile for the cocos line and the aqua flakes? I noticed the coco has more potassium, any other changes? Also, should I expect any problems if using a soilless mix (50 coco/50 perlite)? Thanks!
Hi Chris,
Any differences in the formula will be on the label. I don’t think you should go more than 30% perlite in your mix. Peace!
Alan
Was curious if you recommend using any enzyme products or even multi zen when going longer in the vegetative stage?
Hi Jordan,
You can use Multizen if you’re going long on your veg cycle. However, don’t use Hygrozyme with H&G, it causes major PH fluctuations. Peace!
Alan
What’s up H&G, I was wondering how long of a ph balanced water flush I should use with coco (I currently do 10-14 days) and how you would recommend that cycle? Let’s say for example that the seed flower package recommends a 70 day flowering period. Should I use the recommendations on your nutrient calculator for a 10 week flower period and flush an extra 2 weeks, or 8 week flower period and just flush for the last 2? Thanks for your opinion and an unmatched nutrient line.
Hi Chris,
With House and Garden there’s no need for these long required flushing times because there is no salt build up to flush out If you have used only H&G, then you only need to flush for 3 days, just like the chart says. So, use the 10 week chart and flush for 3 days. Peace!
Alan
Hello Alan,
Thanks again for your excellent advice.
Thanks heaps
Cheers, Peter
Hi Peter,
You can add Top Booster in week 5. Add it into the reservoir for the last 3-4 days of week. Top Booster is basically “fall in a bottle”. It will signal your plants to shut down and to focus the energy to the fruit and not to the maintenance of the plant. Peace!
Alan
Hello,
Can you tell me what the NPK is for the Shooting Powder?
Thank you!
Squirell418
Hi Squirrel,
The NPK for Shooting Powder is 0-.9-.20. Peace!
Alan
Hello,
I have a few questions about HG before I switch.
Big Tim
Hi Tim,
Air stones cause some minor foaming in the reservoir. Peace!
Alan
What is the detailed process of flushing using your soil a/b line? Should I feed nutes every watering between weekly feedings?
Hi Edward,
You want to feed every time you water. Peace!
Alan
i have been having to cut back my nuts after my first initial feeding for that week at the proper mils due to tip burning. Any ideas why?
Hi Art,
If your strain is different then before, that might be it. Some strains require less nutrients then others. It’s OK to go lower then the chart on the base nutrients if you need to. Peace!
Alan
Thank you gentleman for making the best nutrient line out there,I am very impressed so far.In regards to a previous post about using hygrozyme with H&G,does that apply to soil as well?
Havent seen a big flucuation, but wondered about switching to Great White. Thanks guys for making it available across the pond here.
Hi Avgjoe,
I definitely recommend Great White, it’s a great product, and it happens to be the only non H&G product that I use. I really notice the PH fluctuations with Hygrozyme in the hydroponic setups the most. But, if you start having problems, you know where to start looking first. Peace!
Alan
I don’t see a flushing solution on House & Gardens list of products–do they not make one? If not, why and how do they suggesting flushing be done?
Thanks!
Kind Regards,
Tom
Hi Thomas,
House and Garden doesn’t make a flushing/ leaching solution beacause there is no salt to flush/leach out if you have used all H&G on your crop. You can flush with proper PH water for 3 days. Peace!
Alan
H&G,
I just picked up a bottle of Amino Treatment and was wondering if it would be a problem using a bloom stimulant that also contains amino acids with the Amino Treatment?
Thanks,
Bill
Hi Bill,
The Amino Treatment should be fine with your bloom stimulant that has aminos in it. I would always recommend to do a test with one or two plants when you’re unsure of something like this. Peace!
Alan
I use cocos and all your other nutes. I love amino treatment; way sturdier and lots more lateral branching. No more need for staking strains that needed it before. Anyways, I am wondering if it’s cool if I cut my coco with 15% of either rockwool croutons or perlite. I’ve always just run it strait but am using those soft bottom pots and have noticed some more compacting with them, but I love the pots anyways. Anywho, thanks for the great products that help me make the best product. Much appreciated.
Quasar,
You will be fine mixing your coco with croutons or perlite. Peace!
Alan
Thanks J
Hi James,
Well, I’m sorry you had a bad experience, but I’m happy that you’re with us now. Peace!
Alan
I had a question regarding amino treatment, can i use as a foliar application? Knowing amino acids can be absorbed through the stomas of the plant. Thank you.
Hi JR,
No, Amino Treatment shouldn’t be used as a foliar spray. Peace!
Alan
When flowering, how can I tell what product to use in between the weekly scheduled feedings. So if I use a&b every watering how about the top booster, multi zen, shooting powder, etc…
Hi Edward,
You want to use the base nutrients and all additives you have for every watering. Peace!
Alan
How Can I achieve dense flowers using h&g line as if I was using gravity with the fox farm line. My flowers does not seem to be as hard & dense since I switched to h&g. Although the shooting powder is amazing. I’m aiming for hard & dense.
Hi Edward,
I don’t know what to tell you, Shooting Powder is a flower hardener and has worked well for alot of people. Peace!
Alan
Aggressive flushing for 3 days? So what is a good rule of thumb for the volume of ph’d water for flushing a 5 gallon plant?
Hi Edward,
I really can’t give a good answer for that question. You just have to do it. That’s something you have to figure out on your own. Good luck!
Alan
I’m using h&g line. When should I use mollasses in the flowering process?
Hi Edward,
Molasses isn’t really necessary with House and Garden beacuse we have Bud XL. Bud XL is an enzyme that will extract the sugars that are within the leaves and make them available to the fruit, so as to sweeten naturally without having to add sweetener. Peace!
Alan
I recently started using soil ab and roots excel. I want to add great white, how do you recommend I mix the gw in. Will it be ok to add to the water I mix the soil ab and roots excel in or should it be mixed in a separate container?
Hi Alex,
I would add the desired amount of Great White to a small amount of water and let it dissolve, then add it too the nutrient container. Peace!
Alan
Hello,, Thanks for the help,, I just a couple of questions,,
I was wondering,, is it good to add a co2 tank to the room to help the plants feed ?
this question gets compounded w/ the fact that sometimes in the room being too hot, like in summer time, I need to have the AC unit working,, is the AC not good in general for the plants and also if I use it , should I turn it off when the co2 is on the room ?
thanks very much .
Hi Caliche,
CO2 is great for your plants and an AC unit is fine. I would suggest that you make sure that your room temperature is under control and dialed in before you add the CO2. Peace!
Alan
I’m growing in soil. I’m week 7 into a 8 week flowering cycle. My plant looks under feed. Do to the fact that I was only feeding h&g line once a week with fresh water in between feedings. What can I do to make the best of my situation? I’m still confused about flushing my plants in soil aggressively for 3 days. Am I suppose to harvest with saturated soil?
Hi Edward,
At this point I would feed them a little more. Peace!
Alan
Alls I gotta say about H & G is that they are a superb company with AMAZING! customer service they truly great people. And thats besides how top of the line there products are. And no I do not work for them. Just am very happy with the service they provided me. A pleasure would be an Understatement to say the least. Big shout out to Alan! N rob. Thank you very much for your kind help.
Hi Joe,
Thanks for the props. It’s much appreciated. Peace!
Alan
hello H & G,
What is your opinion on using a humic acid such as NUTS (MAD FARMER) or sweet (botonicare) along with your line up (aqua flakes a/b in hydroten)?
Thank you.
guys – just purchased new under current system – under current rep says to mix nutrients half strength and less frequent nutrient change – what is your thoughts on this and if they are right what would i use for 3 week veg and 7 week flower – thanks
Hi Steve,
Just follow the feed chart for a short crop veg cycle and go half strength on the nutrients. For flowering, you can follow the 6 week chart and add a week at the end or you can follow the 8 week chart and take a week away in the beginning. Those Under Current systems are very efficient and give incredible yields. Peace!
Alan
Hi Tracy,
The only thing wrong with letting four of the plants go for another few weeks is that you have already used Top booster and Bud XL. These two products have told the plants to shut down, so I don’t know how well they would do after that. At that point I would also worry about the product getting too “overdone”. Peace!
Alan
This is my second grow using the entire H&G line. My current crop is in week 2 of flowering and all the leaves are turning a pale lime-green color. I just used Magic Green (5 mL/gal) and it didnt help. I am in coco, drip run to waste and following the nute calculator to a T. Also, running RO water and flushing every two weeks and using Great White. Any suggestions? Could it just be an N deficiency?
Thanks,
Jimbo
Hi Jimbo,
Sounds to me like the plants need more food. Peace!
Alan
Thanks so much!
Is bushmaster ok to use along with your h&g soil line nutrients, during veg?
Hi Edward,
I wouldn’t recommend using Bushmaster with anything. I thought that it was pulled from the shelves because it had cancer causing growth regulators in it. However, I guess if you decide to use it, it’s compatible with House and Garden. Peace!
Alan
Thank you!
Hi Train Wreck,
That sounds like the old GH Dutch Bucket system, I used those for years. You’ll be fine with that system using Aqua Flakes as your base nutrient. I know you won’t be dissappointed. Peace!
Alan
Hi Mike,
I think you should water both times with Top Booster that week. Peace!
Alan
your products KICK ASS keep up the good work happy growing
I see on the nutrient calculator it says use shooting powder at a rate of 4.6 g (1st week of use). The package says 1 – 2 65g sachets per 25 gallons of res.
(Running Coco, DTW, using your line)
which should I follow?
Also running a Ebb N Flow and wondering how I would use the shooting powder in Hydro. I have a 40 gal res
Hi Jon,
That might be an error, the dose if you want to weigh it out is 2.6 grams/gallon for the first week of Shooting Powder and 5.2 grams/gallon for the last 2 weeks. You can also use it as it says on the package, 1 sachet per 25 gallons water for the first week or 2 sachets per 25 gallons water for the last 2 weeks. Peace!
Alan
Im using Soil A/B and along with the rest of the line, my question is how many days in between each feed? I’ve heard Feed/Feed/Water with 2 days in between each, but if I wait 2 days my girls look very dry and start sagging.
Hi slick,
You want to feed every time you water. The time in between isn’t written in stone, it really depends on how big your plants are and how big the pots are. I tell people to water when the soil is dry and the plants are just beginning to look a little limp. Peace!
Alan
Hi Rob,
With that system all you need to do top off for the new week and add the nutrients according to how much fresh water you have added. Peace!
Alan
What types of grow medium to you recommend for all of the product bases. Right now i use sunleaves rocks for the aqua and pro mix for soil. Just wanted your input and see what you guys have tried. Thanks
Art
Hi Art,
For the Cocos A/B you need at least 30% coco medium and a drain to waste system. Peace!
Alan
I bought some of your algen extract about a year and a half ago to mix with my base nutes for veg. My question is will it still be usable after so long the lid was on tight and kept in a dark place but temps got to 105 for a high and just about freezing for a low and the algen extract has become real thick and will almost not pour out of the bottle, it still smells the same and doesn’t have bad smell, so is it ok to add a little water and still use it or should i buy a new bottle? Thanks for your help
Hi Dave,
I would throw that out and get a new bottle. Peace!
Alan
What’s up H&G, new user n got ? running coco’s a&b through 50/50 coco perlite mix n can’t seem to get plant’s in veg that nice dark green i like to see. i do feed a lil above the normal feeding guidelines of ur calculator, should i be mixing nutes stronger or go Aqua flakes. i’ve heard that much perlite doesn’t do too well with coco’s a&b, figured i would like to do recirculating drip system with coco 50/50 perlite mix. i read people have done that with great results. Thanks for ur help.
Hi Leon,
The Cocos A/B is formulated for a drain to waste system, not a recirculating system. That might be part of your problem. You’ll want to use Aqua Flakes. Peace!
Alan
been using your a&b coco and I’m noticing yellow leaves and brown rust colored spots, basically deficiency. I am using your charts and am using a small amount of cal mag since I use r.o. water. can you help. thanks.
Hi John,
Sounds like deficiency. Peace!
Alan
Need help, currently im running a flood and drain table. 30 gal resovoir and using only aqua flakes A+B. I adjust pH to 5.8 and in the next week pH is 6.3 so its in range. I use ro water at 0 ppm and E.C is at 0, i also veg 2 weeks same nutes and water quality, now why would at week 2 of bloom i start seeing symptoms of defienciencies? Yellow spots and sum burns on foliage??
Hi JR,
Since you’re using RO water, you might have to add in some cal mag to 150ppm before you add your Aqua Flakes. You might have to increase your base nutrients too. Peace!
Alan
hi i am using house and garden component with my grow and am in flower stage , i am finding that i am using alot more than the recommended 5ml per litre to gain an EC of 1.8 is this normal ?? i use approx 11 liters of water each time i mix up a bucket for feed and im sure my blue lab wand is fine i always rinse after use , any1 got any info ill be really happy to hear from u
vantigglen
Hi Vantigglen,
That number does seem a little high, however you didn’t mention any problems that your plant are having. So if your plants are healthy, just keep doing what you’re doing. Peace!
Alan
hi , ur correct i dont seem to be having any problems and am continuing the good work .. with so far good results , however i do seem to be using way more than i used to , is it watered down more than old stuff or something lol i guess ill just bat on but its £15 a liter here in england hopefully 2 feeds a week is enough , gotta say the top boost is epic , and shooting powder too if ur carefull with it , thanks for the reply , be nice to no for sure why it uses so much !! it even dropped my ph to 5.5 and im using soil .. thats 1.8 ec , 5.5 ph next ill ph the run off , peace to all with love Van tigglen
Hi Van Tigglen,
A good sign of a strong strain is the ability to take a fair amount of nutrients, so it isn’t all bad. Peace!
Alan
hi al ,
kool kool i appreiate u getting back to me they do look very healthy with big shiney green leaves ( never a bad sign ) n no leaf curl or yellow tips as yet so all good i look forward to the new stuff
was also wondering how can i get a calcium additive thats in the u.k for bloom stage as i no the H&G dont have it as an additive , i see u recommend cutting edge but they dont deliever to anywhere other than usa where can i get a calcuim additive in the uk ?? all the best alan
Vantigglen
hello allan i really want to know about what calcium additive to add to my feed as i no there isnt any calcium in the house&garden range would really like to no ur response and please dont say cutting edge as they dont deliver to anywhere outside the usa
Hi Joe,
I’m happy to hear that you switched from Hygrozyme, it’s been known to cause PH fluctuations with H&G. In the post you’re referring to, I believe I was talking about Aqua Flakes over Soil when using a spagma peat moss based medium like Pro Mix or Sunshine #4. I don’t know exactly how much cal and mag is in Aqua Flakes, but you can always add some if you need to. Peace!
Alan
I love house and garden started with just a and b now i am using almost the whole line. My question is can i use Bud XL and top booster along with a bestie blooms, cha ching and open sesame? How about over drive along with top booster? Thank You
Hi B,
I wouldn’t recommend mixing additives with additives. It’s safe to use House and Garden additives with other base nutrients or House and Garden base nutrients with other additives. Please remember that the H&G nutrient line does best when used by itself. Peace!
Alan
I am going to be trying House & Garden nutrients for the first time soon and was wondering if I need to use the drip clean if I am using distilled water?
Thanks for your time and help
Mike
Hi Mike,
Yes, use Drip Clean. It acts as a magnet for salt and dirt particles so you don’t get any build up. Peace!
Alan
I grow in beds an water every 3 days. Should I use a&b nutrients every watering? Also, do you recommend using any sugar during flowering?
Hi Chris,
Yes, you want to feed every time you water. We use Bud XL instead of adding sweeteners. The Bud XL will extract the sugars within the leaves and transfer them to the fruit to sweeten naturally. Peace!
Alan
hey, just wondering how many feed cycles i should do during my 12hr light cycle? I am running ebb and grow in sealed room with co2 1k lights. Some people say 4 times for 15 min also when should i feed first and last? also my last run they were weak not solid? how about using sugar? also when should is the aggressive strength necessary to use????
Hi Glen,
I’ve run hydro systems for a while now and I feed 5 times in 24 hours. Peace!
Alan
Thanks Allen. I live in mckville an NHS rocks. What’s up with the multi zin On the veg cycle now? Do I need the new nitrogen product? I flower 10 day into veg.
Hi Chris,
Some gardeners gave positive feedback on using Multizen during the veg cycle so the factory did some tests and decided to make it official. The Nitrogen Boost is great for those strains that need just a little bit more than the base nutrients provide, but be careful because it’s powerful stuff. Peace!
Alan
Hi Bill,
When using Aqua Flakes with your Promix, use the Aqua Flakes chart. You’ll want to feed every time you water and use the “normal” amount of base nutrients or slightly less until you figure out how your plants will take the nutrients. If your still using some Advanced products, you really need to use Drip Clean to keep your salts under control. Peace!
Alan
I have one more question, when using Aqua Flakes with Promix-BX what PH should i use with my nutrient solution and water? Because Promix-Bx is very acidic (PH 5.5-6.0)
Hi Bill,
Stick with the PH levels for the chart you’re using. Peace!
Alan
Hi H&G can you recommend all suplements necessary for hydro and what is cost
Hi Martin,
You can find all the supplements listed on the feed chart which you can download from the website. Peace!
Alan
hey, first thank you for your time, you mentioned you feed 5 times in a 24hr period, are you watering in your night cycle? Also, i use only your products and I’ve run 4 cycles in 1.5 years, i noticed root rot at the end if i water more than 4 times, also any sugars at the end??
Hi Glen,
Yes, I do water during the night cycle, and it’s 4 times not 5, I made a typo there. Peace!
Alan
Ok I’m going to purchase Drip Clean. But I read years ago that anything high in phosphorus will cause nutrient lookout in your plants. And when I read the N-P-K on Drip Clean it has a 18 in phosphorus. Can I get nutrient lookout when using drip clean? And if so then what can I do to avoid this from happening? Again I use promix-bc and I’m going to use aqua flakes along with a few of advanced nutrients additives. Thank you for your help
Hi Bill,
The dose for Drip Clean is only 0.4ml/gal, so it doesnt affect the plants like you’re giving them a big shot of PK. Unless you’re giving more then the recommended dose, I don’t think that’s the ptoblem. The Drip Clean will only help you keep your salts broken down with the Advanced additives you’re using. Peace!
Alan
if 10-12 days into flowering n want to get plants a lil greener is it a bad idea to add .5 ml per gal of algen extract n .5-1 ml of nitrogen boost to the 2nd week flowering week feeding chart n feed it once or twice maybe? they can eat everyday so figure feed 1 or 2 times may not hurt too much. Please reply at ur earliest convenience as i’m not sure what to do, Thanks for ur help
Hi Leon,
Maybe you just need to increase the base nutrients a little. Either that or use a foliar spray like Magic Green. I wouldnt recommend giving the plants nitrogen at this point in flowering. The Algen Extract is more of a growth stimulator so i wouldn’t recommend that either. Peace!
Alan
I am in the process of changing my aeroponics system over to H&G products. I have a bottle of Humbolt Roots that I have been using and would like to know if I could I use this instead of Root Excelurator.
Hi Patty,
It’s OK to use the Humboldt Roots, but it won’t work as well as Roots Excelurator. Peace!
Alan
So far, impressive results. If I observe signs of nutrient burn and decide to water using half the recommended levels of base nutrients for the next watering; would I also halve the recommended measurement for additives?
Thanks, J
Hi James,
You’ll want the additives at full strength, except Shooting Powder, maybe go a little light on that when you get there. Peace!
Alan
Will house & garden nutrients ever be distributed by,NGW,Hydro Farm or BWGS.
Hi Jay,
No, House and Garden is only distributed by Humboldt Wholesale. Peace!
Alan
Hello House and Garden,
I recently purchased your complete Coco line in the states everything is working well. Now I’d like to germinate some seeds in coco,I’ve never done seeds in coco and I am wondering how to accomplish this using your products.OR should I maybe add a drop of superthrive ?Can roots excelorator and grate white get them started.
Hi Ben,
Once the seeds have popped and they are in the medium, the recipe is 2.5ml/gallon of A, 2.5ml/gallon of B, 1ml/gallon Roots Excelurator. If you need help to pop the seeds, let me know. Peace!
Alan
How much cal-mag do you recomend if im useing RO water. My medium is Canna coco and your coco nutrients i run you whole line? Thank you!!
Hi Corey,
Put your cal-mag in to 150ppm, then add your base nutrients, then adjust your PH levels, then add your additives. Peace!
Alan
Is well water with no filter ok to use. I am using coco
Hi Larry,
That depends on what your ppm is out of the tap. If it’s around 300-400, then that’s bad.
Hey H&G,
A question on the dilution rate for shooting powder- the nute calculator says to add 1.0-2.0 mL/gal. The package says 1-2 sachets (65 g-130g) per 25 gal or 2.6-5.2 g/gal. Which is correct?
Hi Jimbo,
I just went to the nutrient calculator and it seems there are some typos for Shooting Powder on the odd week flowering cycles. When the dose is 1 sachet / 25 gallons, that breaks down to 2.6 grams/gallon. When the dose is
2 sachets / 25 gallons, that breaks down to 5.2 grams/gallon. Peace!
Alan
Thanks for the answer. The reason I asked is because right now I am using ro water , I add cal mag. But I am getting brown in the middle part off the leafs. What do you think could be the problem. Using coco .
Hi Larry,
There seems to be an epidemic of people using cal-mag additives without treating a problem. Peace!
Alan
why is it that on the nute cal for flowering 8 weeks n under u recommend use Amino Treatment but not for weeks 9? is it cause they haven’t got around to changing it, or cuz the other shorter weeks need it? Thanks for all ur help
Hi Leon,
We just discovered that the odd numbered weeks on the nutrient calculator has some wrong information on it. We are working on fixing the problem. Sorry for the inconvenience. Peace!
Alan
Can you use Algen Extract in an ebb and flow type soil less system with a 25 gal res? Just wondering because it says mix in small batches to make sure it stay fresh. Can I just top feed with Roots excel mixed with water when I am vegging (still going to flood and drain with Aqua flakes but just dont want to have to waste so much roots excel every res change) Thank You!! I love H & G!!
Hi JImmy,
Yes, you can use Algen Extract in a flood and drain. Peace!
Alan
Hi Kyle,
At this point I would not recommend adding the Amino Treatment in week 5 for only 1 week, and if you do anyway, definitely don’t use the 3.8ml/gallon dose. The first dose starts at 0.8ml/gallon in week 1 of veg. I would recommend starting the right way on the next run. Peace!
Alan
Hi KB,
There are micro nutrients already within the House and Garden line, and the base nureients are formulated a little differently for the USA too. Peace!
Alan
Your amino treatment jumps sO much between veg an flower I’m a little concerned about burn and at $189 a pop that’s gonna be expensive. With 60 gallon res, I’m giving them 210 mills every watering.” Is it worth the investment?” is what I’m thinking. It might end up costing me an extra $1000+ a run. What do you recommend ? Thanks for your understanding
Hi Chris,
Amino Treatment is not a food, so it won’t burn your plants. Peace!
Alan
I am currently using Sunshine Advanced Mix #4 which contains coco & peat/drain to waste.Which nutes would be more suitable,The Coco A/B or AquaFlakes?
Hi Chunga,
You need at least 30% coco to use the Cocos formula. For Sunshine #4, we recommend using the Aqua Flakes. Peace!
Alan
Hi,
Just one more question, I promise!
Thanks again!
Hi Oliver,
No problem with your questions, that’s what we’re here for. The shelf life of H&G products is 3 years unopened, 1 year opened, and stored properly in a cool dark place. Peace!
Alan
Looking at the feed chart, it states how much PER WEEK.
If I feed 3 – 4 times a week, should I be dividing the amount by the times I water? or should I be adding the full amount once and only water the rest of the week?
What is suggested?
Hi NubGardener,
You will want to feed every time you water with House and Garden. So if the chart says 6ml/gallon on the base nutrients for the week, then you’ll mix your feed water with that amount every time. Peace!
Alan
Thanks J
Hi James,
If you’re not in the UK, please don’t follow that feed chart. Peace!
Alan
I have six 4×8 beds an use 60 gallons every 3 days. My bad for the misunderstanding
Hi Chris,
No problem. Happy to help. Peace!
Alan
Hey H&G-
When using Shooting Powder, can I still top off the res? Also, when transitioning from 2.6 g/gal to 5.2 g/gal, can I simply add additional shooting powder until I’m at the level of 5.2 g/gal, or do you recommend starting with a fresh res at this point?
Hi Jimbo,
You can still top off the reservoir and add Shooting Powder accordingly. You don’t have change the reservoir when going to the higher dose, just top off and add accordingly. Peace!
Alan
Hi guys!
I am using:
-Soil A/B
-Drip-Clean
Hi Rachel,
Well, your Roots Organics 707 soil is full of stuff already so you need not add nutrients in the beginning. Peace!
Alan
I am using coco. also ro water. my well water is not on a softner. With my bluelab ph 7.3 ppm 150,0.3 ec,3cf. Would this water be ok? Reason is I am buying water now would like to use mine if its ok.
Hi Larry,
You PPMs and PH seem to be fine from the tap, go with that. Peace!
Alan
How long can i let my mixed nutrients sit before use?
Hi Ed,
You’re safe for a couple days at least. How long do you need to wait? Just check the PH levels. Peace!
Alan
I believe you answered this ?! I have been making mixed batches of nutrients weeks in advance. Is this not recommended?
Hi Ed,
I wouldn’t recommend mixing more then you will use in one week. Be sure to check the PH after the mix has been sitting. Peace!
Alan
hi my question is after adding shooting powder leaves turn yellow why
Hi CB,
If you’re that far into the cycle, leaves will turn yellow because the plant is coming to the end of it’s life and the energy from the plant is directed to the fruits and flowers. Just take off the bad leaves. Peace!
Alan
Hi Veek Da Freak,
The H&G scientists do not recommend using air stones with Amino Treatment. Peace
Thank you. Now that includes even in the aeroponic vegatative machine I use then huh?
Hi Veek,
Well, are you talking about a cloner machine, because that OK to use air stones. If you are talking about a cloner machine, do not use Amino Treatment in a cloner machine. I’ve never heard od an Aeroponic vegatative machine. Peace!
Alan
I currently use soil a and b, roots excelurator and great white for my nutes ( adding some more soon). I water roughly every 2-3 days my question is, is it ok if I store those nutes mixed for the week? So I don’t have to keep mixing multiple times a week. I had been using plain water in between feeds . I keep readin to feed every time. Thank you
Hi Alex,
Yes, you can mix your nutrients for the week, just check your PH before feeding if it’s been a couple days since you’ve mixed the batch. It is recommended to feed with every watering. Peace!
Alan
So i noticed on other comment you recommend no peroxide as it can kill H&G enzymes so what do you recommend to rid and prevent green mold on the hydroton ??
Hi Chak,
I’ve never seen green mold form on hydroton, but I have seen green algae form on hydroton from continuous drip feeding systems The hydroton needs to dry out a little. Peace!
Alan
Whats mix for clones in coco? How much A-b that sort of thing. thanks
Hi Larry,
I normally use Aqua Flakes, but I’m sure Cocos A/B wil be fine. I use 2.5ml of A and B per gallon and Roots Excelurator at 1ml/gallon. Peace!
Alan
On the nuts calculator I see that it says to add nitrogen booster & amino treatment but when you scroll down on your products list under additives it doesnt show them are they nessecary or not. And can you please tell me about a retailer for the items in florida.
Hi Just Jr27,
Thank you for bringing that to our attention. Amino Treatment and Nitrogen Boost are not required, they are additives. The only Products that I would concider to be absolutely necessary are the base nutrients and Roots Excelurator. Everything else is an additive and is optional. However, using as many additives as you can afford will give you the best results in the end. Peace!
Alan
My plants are in dirt. I use 60 gallons every three days when i water. I am using 210 mills of amino treatment every watering. At $190 a bottle it’s going to add up. Should I use it every other time i water or use less to save money? Or should I spend the money because it will be worth it? Thanks.
Hi Chris,
I thought that you used 60 gallons for the week, not every time you water. The cost versus result question will have to be decided by you. You can read about how people really like the results, but again, you’ll have to figure that one out yourself. I think it’s worth it. Peace!
Alan
what do i use to measure 1.1ml 4 roots excelurator? do u sell something?
Hi Jeffrey,
You can purchase a ml dropper at you local hydr retailer. Peace!
Alan
Was wondering what to do using a 40 gal. res aero system if my ppm’s in week 6 with are high (1600) while using your regular formula, or if that even matters. Thats what my ppms start out as when i empty and refill for that starting week. Also, what to do if i notice my plants are taking up more water than nutes. (water levels drop as ppms stay the same all the way thoughout each week. Thanks much!!
Hi Nick,
Your plants don’t seem to be eating, maybe because your adding too much base nutrients. Instead of doing a complete water change with the PPM so high, try just topping off with water, adjust your PH, and see if your plants start to eat more. Peace!
Alan
In one of your older nutrient tables (Soil) you recommended to use Root Excel in the last 3 weeks of flowering. In you new online nutrient calculator you do not recommend using Root Excel in the last 3 weeks. Why did this change?
Hi Denver,
Some changes like that were made because at that point in the cycle Roots Excelurator just isn’t needed unless you’re battling some kind of root issue, so it saves you some money on that expensive stuff. You can continue to use it all the way through flowering if you want to. Peace!
Alan
i am using ebb/flo bucket system, coco coir for planting in and house and garden a/b nutrients, how often should i water, i have been watering twice a day, should i let it dry out more, older leaves are yellowing, but they are still young
Hi Don,
If the plants are looking healthy, then go with what you’re doing. If the plants are small enough, one feeding a day might be enough. How often you water will depend on how large your plants are, so you might have to water more as they get larger. In my experience, it’s better to have evenly spaced feeding intervals, however many times you feed. Peace!
Alan
I use roots organic soil, it says that there is enough nutes to last about a month. Should I wait to start feeding HG nutes or start as soon as I plant in the soil? If I start will there be nute burn? Or any other issues?
Thank you
I cant express enough how great house and garden is, especially this FAQ forum. You guys are quick to respond and very informative. Other brands should take some notes on your customer service!
Hey Alex,
Your going to want to wait to use up the nutrients in the soil before you add H&G nutrients. Peace!
Alan
Using a ebb n grow system w/hydroton as medium. I follow feed schedule and use the flakes. Was wodering if reusing hydroton is possible?? I have alredy and am noticing some root rott. i use all ads including roots ex. any answers suggestions would be great thanks.
Hi Bob,
Hydroton is very porous and will need to be rinsed very well before you reuse it. Peace!
Alan
What’s the word with the top shooter and amino acid adding 30% more? ????
Hey Lui,
There is a description on the feed chart that says “..Shooting Powder CAN help to increase yields up to 30%.” We don’t claim that it WILL increase 30$, but it can help to. Try it and see for yourself. Peace!
Alan
Hey Jo,
Thanks for the props. Peace!
Alan
Thanks for all the help , I have one more question I have a little bit of iorn in my water will that be ok?
Hi Larry,
You should be fine. Just don’t add more iron with any supplements that you might use. Peace!
Alan
Hi I’m new with using H&G so first I am using sunset promix 1. and using H&G A&B soil. Us root exel love that stuff.. now wondering can i use CNS17 Ripe Formula from botanicare and Hydroplex from botanicare? and can i use overdrive also? Oh was wondering what is the correct Ph i should have my after everything is mixed? Should I mix everything and let it sit if so how long? Thanks for your help..
Hey Kevin,
You can use additves from other nutrient lines with H&G Soil A/B. You should adjust your PH to 6.3 after you add the base nutrients, then put in your additives. You can mix up your batch of water for the week if you want, just check the PH after the mix has been sitting for a few days. Peace!
Alan
Peace.
Hey Blake,
The citric acid you’re using seems fine, but I don’t really know how aggressive it will work or if it will maintain very well like an actual PH down product. Peace!
Alan
So should I not use the h&g supplements? Or the other stuff? And what would you reccomend for a good ph product? I have earth juice ph down and up. Citric acid and potassium bicarbonate. Thanks again. I am waiting for the h&g cocos to hit the shops around here, when will that be? I am in norcal. I hated the compaction of the canna and b’cuzz had fungus gnats from the start every time. I used canna last time and it was even worse. The one thing I can say for royal gold is it is perfectly clean of pests and drains well. But the calcium thing is a pain in the ass.
Hey Blake,
I don’t really remember what we were talking about with the supplements, I answer alot of questions.

Thx
Hi Gord,
I don’t know about the UK markets and the avaiulability of House and Garden products in the UK. Peace!
Alan
if there is too much drip clean as example instead of 40ml it would be 400ml.. should the res. be drained and start a new batch of nutes?
Hi Spending Money,
Yes, you need to start over with a new batch of nutrients. Peace!
Alan
I’m wondering why the flower chart has such a dramatic drop in the a&b normal in the last 3 weeks of cycle. Opposed to the aggressive feeding amounts.
Hi Edward,
The reason for the drop in base nutrients for the last 3 weeks of flowering is because when you add Shooting Powder, you can burn your plants if the base nutrients levels are too high. Peace!
Alan
My question is when filling my res should I do it a day in advance to adding nutes? I’ve heard it helps get rid of some chlorine in the water..and should i fill up with cold water then heat it or is it ok to warm the water a lil by turning on the hot water??? Thanks
Hi Gwonder,
You can let the chlorine crap disipate for 24 hours, that always helps but isn’t required. It’s OK to ease a little warm water in the reservoir, just be careful not let the temperature very high. Water temperature over 70F, you’re risking root rot. Peace!
Alan
Hello
Thanks.
Hi Burning Spears,
Go through week eight as the chart says, then flush after that. Peace!
Alan
hey guys first off thanks for the 8th wonder of the world. these products are by far more superior to anything ive ever tested. couple quick questions. I believe i may have read somewhere that you guys were recommending the aqua line for use with promix? why? and what about coco during flowering(due to higher p & k)? I would appreciate any feed back on which would work the best with strictly using promix, no additional amendments, and your full line of additives.
joel
Hi Joel,
We recommend using Aqua Flakes with Pro Miz BX because it is a soilless medium. Aqua Flakes is stronger then Soil A/B so you use less nutrients and the end product is better too. Pro Mix BX is peat based. You can use Soil A/B if you want to and see for yourself. Peace!
Alan
Ok, I am feeding 9 plants in homemade coco slabs 2.5 gallons of water per day. I get about 2 1/4 gallons of drain water in return. My question is can I re-feed the coco nutes one time before throwing it out? I would add water to bring it up to the 2.5 gallon mark and ph to 5.7 before feeding. Let me know what you think. Thanks.
Hi Blake,
It sounds like you are watering with too much water and have too much run off. With run off like that, you might be flushing more then feeding. You don’t want to reuse the run off water at all with Cocos A/B. Your PH level is fine. Try to water with as little run off as possible so the plants can feed. Peace!
Alan
Just wanted to say im using your whole H&G line except/ amino treatment , nitro boost and algen extract. and all i can say is wow this stuff is awesome! But i have one question. should i start the flower feeding scedule the day im flick the lights back to 12/12 hours or the day i see the plant showing its sex?
Hi Brian,
You want to start week 1 of flowering the first day after you flip your lights. Thanks for the props! Peace.
Alan
when do i start the flowering cycle? when lights go to 12/12 or when the plant starts showing signs of sex?
Hi Brian,
You want to start week 1 on the flowering chart when you flip the lights. Peace!
Alan
I use aqua flakes, bud xl, drip clean, and top booster (as well as some other brand additives also) and never empty my reservoir except for between cycles. Is it ok to leave the top booster in there (I add if for one week, four weeks before finish)? I.E. I only top off the reservoir every week, so there is likely some unused top booster left in there. Or do I HAVE to get the remaining top booster out by changing the full reservoir?
Hi Tony,
We recommend to change the reservoir after using Top Booster. Peace!
Alan
Any special instructions for using top booster in the Aeroflo2 system? I would imagine I should add last 3 days of a 7 day soup cycle.
Hi Adam,
Yes, add Top Booster in for the last 3 days of the week and change the reservoir for the beginning of the next week. Peace!
Alan
First off I would like to say that I have been using your products for just 9 weeks now, and couldn’t be happier with the switch from my previous nutrient line! I do have one question as I approach the later stages of flowering:
I have not seen a flushing agent in your line of products, so… How would you suggest flushing my plants to free them of any potential nutrient/chemical taste? What product, what strength, and how long?
Thanks in advance for your time and expertise!
CapDaVilla
Hi CapDaVilla,
The House and Garden nutrient line is so clean and doesn’t get the salt build up that other lines get, so you only have to flush for 3 days with PH proper water. Use fresh PH proper water everyday that you flush and that will do just fine. There is no leaching agent required because there is no salt to leach out. Peace!
Alan
Can the coco A & B bases be used by themselves when growing in coco? I understand they are formulated to be used with the entire nutrient line, but the guaranteed analysis doesn’t specify all the nutrients it contains. Does it contain at least a majority of the essential nutrients plants need to grow in a balanced ratio?
Hi Dan,
The House and Garden base nutrients are formulated to use on their own with no additives. Peace!
Alan
Couple questions about the Magic Green. I know it’s a foliar spray, so instead of going by the nutrient calculator’s recommendation for my reservoir size, I mix it by how much water is going into the sprayer, right? for example 1.6ml to 1.2L of water. also, what’s the shelf life once mixed, should I throw out the unused portion immediately, or can I save for the next application? And is it a 1-2x/week spray, or more/less. I’ve been told to apply as soon as lights go off, true? Thanks in advance guys, your products have been highly recommended to me, and so far I’m impressed.
Hi JD,
You are correct, mix according to how much water you are putting in the spray bottle. Use Magic Green within 6 hours of mixing, so throw out what you don’t use right away so you don’t accidentally use it later. You want to apply Magic Green every other week and only spray when the lights are off. It doesn’t have to be right when they go off, but soon after that. Peace!
Alan
thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. just the one application every other week then, or daily every other week? sorry I wasn’t clear with my original question. thanks again.
Hey JD,
Just one application every other week. Peace!
Alan
Ive been using ur line for awhile now. I was wondering what is the importance of mixing part a and then letting it sit for 15 mins. If i mix my 55 gallon drum with a cement mixer and a drill. Could i make sure its well mix and add B right after?
Hi Brandon,
The thing you want to avoid is the concentrated forms of parts A and B hitting each other. This will cause a nutrient lockout. I can’t really recommend for you to do something other then what the factory recommends. Peace!
Alan
hi guys by the way i love your nutrients. Any who i was wondering what trace elements you recommend in the states as a substitute for yours which is not sold here yet? and i have been growing in soil in my green house can i use coco instead this year and water by hand still? Thanks a lot i love house and garden nutes
Hi Mark,
I don’t really need to use stuff much, but you can go online and check it out. The House and Garden Cocos A/B is formulated to be used in a drain to waste system, so you should be fine. Peace!
Alan
Hey Guys,
I’ve been thinking about experimenting with a new nutrient line, and I’ve been wanting to try something that’s coco-specific.
Hi Jason,
I would suggest Cocos A/B, Roots Excelurator, and Shooting Powder at the end. That will give you some great results. Peace!
Alan
Hi Alan,
Should any of the H&G products be stored in the fridge?
And regarding Magic Green, should I be spraying the tops of the leaves, the bottom side or both?
Thanks very much for your guidance.
Alejandro
Hi Alejandro,
You don’t need to store the nutrients in the fridge. As long as they are not exposed to extreme temperatures, you shouyld be fine. Proper storage is in a cool dark place, not a cold dark fridge. Spray Magic Green on the tops mainly, you don’t have to get all up in there and saturate the plant. Peace!
Alan
hi guys just a quick question. im about to clone im gonna use a basic starter dome with grow plugs and clones
what do you recommend i use thanks for your your buy house and garden
Hi Mark,
Dip the cuts in some rooting gel. The nutrient mix is 2.5ml/gallon of A and B, and 1ml/gallon Roots Excelurator. Peace!
Alan
Can Amino Treatment be used as a foliar spray when mixed at 0.2-1ml per litre have come across this on another web site but there is no mention of this on yours
Hi Trevor,
Amino Treatment is not to be used as a foliar spray. Peace!
Alan
Hi Eric,
You’re going to have to get on some online forums for seed popping information. Once the seeds have popped and they are in the grow mudium, you can feed them with 2.5ml/gallon of A and B and 1ml/gallon Roots Excelurator. That will get you going. Peace!
Alan
Hi Kevin,
Good eye. Potassium toxicity can slow the uptake of magnesium and show a defficiency. You will need to flush with PH proper water for probably 2 waterings, then do a fresh batch of nutrients and go from there. You probably don’t want to use the silica. Peace!
Alan
hey how is it going? first off i want to say i have been using you line for about seven years now and couldnt be happier. one thing though i have recently just started using your Amino treatment and noticing the water gets pretty funky is that normal? it not affecting anything that i see but there is all types of stuff that tends to build up. i just want to make sure it isnt an issue.
Hi Tom,
There will be some stuff in there but it won’t affect anything. Peace!
Alan
how come you erased my comment about the differance btween u.k c.a a.ua,u.s nutrients and why would they be different when water around the world is not that differant ,also aproper flush for 3 gal. of soil or 5 gal. of soil would be 3 times the amount of water to soil
Hi Alan,
Each region’s representatives have some say in what their charts say. Peace!
Alan
I just bought some drip clean, I’m about 3 weeks and 5 weeks into flowering(2 grows) is it safe to add drip clean this late and will there be a significant difference?
Thank you
Hi Alex,
The thing that you have to worry about is the Drip Clean releasing the salts or any nutrient build up all at once when you start using it this late, that can cause lockout and burning. You might want to flush before you start using it. Peace!
Alan
I flushed one plant 5 weeks into flowering due to a P deficiency and added one drop of drip clean to one gal of distilled watered with 1/2 strength nutrients will this be ok? I also watered the other plant with normal strength nutrients, did not flush and added 1 drop of dc.
Another quick question, would distilled or tap water be better with HG nutes?
Your mix sounds fine. House and Garden is designed to be used with tap water. Just have to wait now.
Alan
House & Garden nutrients ROCKS!!
Amino Treatment Rocks!!!!!!
Hi,
I love your products so far this is my first grow with them and they are working wonderful. I am in week 3 and about to add Top Booster and the following week the shooting powder. I was wondering how much shooting powder to use from the packet if only mixing up on a per gallon basis? I wondered about a teaspoon but don’t know if that is even too much. I am browsing the site looking for the answer as well.
TIA
Peace
Hi Dane,
The breakdown for Shooting Powder is 2.6 grams/gallon and 5.2grams/gallon. Peace!
Alan
Hi, I hvae a question for you , i run a RDWC system, however i run a perpetual grow. So I have plants at varing ages, at all times, in the flowering system, that leaves me the question, how or should i use the usual method to apply the nutrients, im confused becase if bud excel is added in the 5wk , then what about the plants that are in week 2 of the flowering cycle. they all get the same nutrients and water..
Now the veg room is on a cycle of its own, and i have no questions there..
But im confused on what to do with the varied ages in the flower room.
Thanks..
Hi Willy,
There really is nothing you can do about that. You can’t do a grow like that with that kind of system.
Alan
Hi Oliver,
I do a water change about every 3-4 weeks. Peace!
Alan
Hi Van Tigglen,
I would like to help you there, but I’m not familiar with products available in the UK. Good Luck!
Alan
Hi Van Tigglen,
I recommend Botanicare Cal-Mag. Peace!
Alan
Oh yeah! I’m using the entire line of house & garden with bud candy.
Hi Edward,
Just to let you know, most of the sugars and carbs that are in a product like Bud Candy never get used by the plants. Bud Factor X is fine to use if you have been experiencing magnesium deficiencies, but if you haven’t, then it probably isn’t necesary. Use of Bud Candy is a personal choice at this point. Some use it and like it, and some have used it and will never use it again. Peace!
Alan
